Dr. Lei Fan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Houston. Prior to joining the University of Houston, he worked in the electricity industry for several years. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida under the supervision of Dr. Yongpei Guan and received his B.S. from Hefei University of Technology. His research interests span power system operations and planning, electricity markets, optimization algorithms, and quantum computing. He received the NSF CAREER Award in the 2026 EPCL program.
Dr. Fan's group has a postdoc opening and a Ph.D. opening in 2026.
My research bridges classical and quantum algorithms to tackle large-scale challenges in energy systems and computing, using a Hardware-aware model–algorithm–software co-design approach that integrates theory, computation, and practical implementation.
