LoreHop is a free, independent app from Micromatrix for discovering and reading Wikipedia articles. This policy explains how the Android app handles information. LoreHop is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Wikimedia Foundation.
Intended audience
LoreHop is intended for adults aged 18 and over and is not directed to children. Wikipedia covers a wide range of subjects, and article content may not be suitable for younger readers.
Information stored on your device
LoreHop saves your reading history and bookmarks, including article titles, introductions, links, language, and image attribution, in the app's private storage. It also remembers your selected Wikipedia language. Downloaded article previews and images may be cached to make the app faster and allow previously downloaded previews to remain available when a connection fails.
This reading history, bookmarks, and preferences are not uploaded to a LoreHop server. LoreHop does not operate a backend or offer account synchronization. The app does not require a LoreHop account, include advertising, or include an analytics or crash-reporting SDK. It does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or device location.
Saving and sharing story images
Swiping up prepares a story image locally, including the article excerpt, image, LoreHop branding, and source credits. Exported images are cached in the app's private storage. Old share images are removed after seven days when you create another export, and Android may clear cached files sooner.
Save image writes a copy to Pictures/LoreHop on Android 10 or newer, or to a location you choose on Android 8–9. Saved copies remain outside the app and are not removed when you clear LoreHop's data or uninstall it. You can delete them using your photo or file app.
Share opens Android's share sheet. Only when you choose a destination does that app receive the exported image and accompanying article link and credits. The receiving app handles what you share under its own privacy policy. LoreHop does not upload share images to a LoreHop server or request access to your existing photo library.
Shared QR codes and credits pages
A shared image may include a QR code linking to LoreHop's public credits website at https://lorehop.spunkysage10.chatgpt.site. The link contains public Wikipedia article and image identifiers, not your identity, reading history, or bookmarks. Creating the link does not upload the exported image or contact the credits website. The app may request a public image identifier from Wikimedia to prepare the link.
When someone opens the QR link, their browser connects to the hosted credits website and Wikimedia to display the article and its attribution. Those services receive ordinary connection information, including the visitor's IP address. The credits page has no account, analytics code, or advertising.
Connections to Wikipedia and Wikimedia
The app connects directly to Wikipedia and Wikimedia services to download article previews, images, image credits, and full articles. Those services receive your IP address and ordinary request information, such as the content requested, request time, and app or browser information. Wikimedia may derive approximate location from IP addresses and use its request information to operate, protect, and understand its services. The LoreHop developer does not receive a copy of Wikimedia's server logs.
Full articles open in Android WebView. Wikipedia may store first-party cookies in that reader. LoreHop blocks third-party cookies in the reader and disables JavaScript. It does not upload a separate reading-history or bookmark list to Wikimedia. However, requests for articles and images necessarily reveal the resources requested to their servers.
Wikimedia controls its own processing and retention. See the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy:

External links and this policy website
Some links open your device's browser. The destination website and browser handle information under their own policies. This policy page is hosted using Google Sites; visiting it is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy:

Security
LoreHop uses HTTPS for its Wikipedia API, article, and image connections and stores its own saved information within Android's app-private storage. The app does not request a device advertising identifier. No method of storage or transmission can provide an absolute guarantee of security.
Retention and deletion
Reading history starts when you view stories and remains on your device until you use Clear history in the History tab, clear LoreHop's storage, or uninstall it. Clear history removes reading history across all languages and keeps bookmarks. Stories you view afterward start a new history. Viewed cards are recorded so that stories in History or Bookmarks are excluded from new discoveries, including after restarting the app. Removing a bookmark does not remove its reading-history entry.
Bookmarks remain in the app until you remove them, clear LoreHop's storage, or uninstall it. You can remove an individual bookmark using its bookmark control or the remove button in the Bookmarks list.
To remove all local reading history, bookmarks, preferences, downloaded caches, and the app's WebView data, open Android Settings, choose Apps, then LoreHop, then Storage, and select Clear data or Clear storage. Menu names vary by device. Uninstalling LoreHop also removes its app data. Clearing only the cache does not remove your reading history, bookmarks, or preferences. Android may also discard cached files when it needs storage space.
Clearing LoreHop's data does not erase records independently held by Wikimedia, Google, your browser, or websites you visit. Their policies explain their retention practices and privacy request options. LoreHop has no account that needs to be deleted.
