Lordi Napalm Market: The Lost Demo of the Finnish Monster Band

Lordi is a Finnish hard rock and heavy metal band that is known for its monstrous costumes, theatrical stage shows, and catchy songs. The band rose to international fame in 2006 when they won the Eurovision Song Contest with their song "Hard Rock Hallelujah". One of the earliest and most obscure recordings of Lordi is a demo tape called Napalm Market, which was made in 1993. According to Mr. Lordi, he created this demo alone when he was still going to school, using a four-track recorder and a drum machine. He played bass, guitar, keyboards, and vocals, and wrote all the songs and lyrics. He also designed the cover art, which featured a drawing of a monster with a chainsaw and a burning city in the background.

Napalm Market contained five songs: "Saga", "Interball Mexico", "Antibohemian", "Pain In Spain", and "Inferno". The songs were influenced by Mr. Lordi's favorite bands, such as Kiss, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, and W.A.S.P. The lyrics were mostly about horror movies, violence, and rebellion. The music was raw and primitive, but also catchy and melodic. Mr. Lordi described the demo as "very amateurish" but also "very honest".

The demo was never officially released or distributed. Mr. Lordi only made five copies of the tape, which he gave to his friends and family. One of them was Voodoo Virtanen, who later became the first guitarist of Lordi. The other copies are in the possession of Mr. Lordi himself and some unknown people. Napalm Market is considered to be one of the rarest and most sought-after items among Lordi fans and collectors.

Although Napalm Market has never been officially released, some of the songs have been re-recorded or re-used by Lordi in their later albums. For example, "Saga" was re-recorded as "The Children Of The Night" for their debut album Get Heavy in 2002. "Interball Mexico" was re-recorded as "Bite It Like A Bulldog" for their fourth album Deadache in 2008. "Antibohemian" was re-used as the chorus of "Bringing Back The Balls To Rock" for their second album The Monsterican Dream in 2004.

Napalm Market is a fascinating piece of history that shows the origins and evolution of Lordi as a band and as a concept. It is also a testament to Mr. Lordi's passion and dedication to his music and his vision. Napalm Market may be lost, but it is not forgotten.
