Announcements
We are organising a Focus Meeting (FM10) titled: “Solar variability across timescales: from magnetism to irradiance, models, and historical records”, in International Astronomical Union (IAU) General Assembly (GA), which will take place in Rome over 10-19 August 2027.
Abstract submission is now open! Deadline January 15th, 2027.
Call for papers for Topical Issue in the Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate (JSWSC): “Space Climate: From Solar Variability to Terrestrial Impacts”. Deadline for paper submissions: 31 March 2027
We have a citizen science project, "Sunspot Detectives" hosted in Zooniverse, where we ask volunteers to help us get a count of sunspots from historical solar drawings. We would be grateful if you could help us disseminate the project within your networks and encourage interested colleagues, students, or members of the public to participate.
About the WG
This working group (WG) is part of SCOSTEP/COURSE Focus Area 1: Sources of Space Weather and Space Climate and aims to foster collaboration among researchers investigating solar variability on long timescales through observations, proxies, reconstructions, and modelling. The WG supports the recovery, preservation, digitisation, and analysis of historical solar observations, as well as the development of improved approaches of cross-calibration, uncertainty assessment, reconstruction, and reanalysis. It also promotes the integration of historical and modern observations with long-term proxies and physics-based modelling, and facilitates the exchange of data, tools, and methodologies across the community. The WG collaborates with the Solar–Stellar Connections WG (see SCOSTEP Newsletter number 48) and the Solar Energetic Particles and Extreme Solar Particle Events WG.
