Early Life & Military Service:
Reagan L. Faile was born in Fort Benton, Montana, into a long line of military men. Raised on stories of valor and discipline, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 18 and was quickly recognized for his sharp mind and tactical decisiveness. As a tactical officer aboard an intelligence-gathering vessel, Reagan saw action in multiple high-tension zones and earned commendations for leadership under pressure.
But his career was abruptly derailed after an unsanctioned mission - details of which remain classified - resulted in the deaths of two civilian contractors and the destruction of sensitive materials. Whether scapegoat or guilty party, Reagan was quietly discharged under "Other Than Honorable" conditions.
Following his discharge, Reagan disappeared off-grid for several years. He resurfaced only once - in rural Alaska - when local authorities discovered him operating under a false identity and was found in possession of improperly retained classified naval equipment. His attempt to flee resulted in a brief standoff involving federal responders. The Foundation, already aware of his involvement in the prior classified incident, intervened and assumed custody. With his record, false identity, and proximity to an anomalous zone, Reagan was designated as D-Class and transferred to Site-66, a place notorious for low survival rates and high anomaly activity.
Entry into Site 66 Through D-Class:
There, Reagan spent months in D-Class rotation, assigned primarily to low-priority testing and containment maintenance — work meant to kill most within weeks.
It was during this time he crossed paths with two other notable D-Class inmates:
Frank Stevens and Whitey Bulger
Though they weren’t friends — no one in D-Block was — Reagan kept a quiet, strategic distance from both men. Stevens ran a kind of underground barter network among inmates, while Bulger kept mostly to himself, obsessively scribbling indecipherable equations on the walls of his cell. Reagan didn’t trust either of them, but he respected what they represented: intelligence sharpened by desperation.
Eventually, a staffing crisis in Site 66’s Research Division forced command to pull from the D-Class pool. Reagan, flagged due to his military background and stable psychological profile, was selected for reassignment. Stevens and Bulger were also pulled — not at the same time, and not for the same reasons.
Rebirth in Research:
Reagan — now cleared for use of his real name again — proved invaluable. His prior military training allowed him to take point during dangerous on-site testing, while Stevens and Bulger offered the scientific brainpower. Together, they pioneered several minor but effective containment refinements.
But Site 66 is not a place of permanence.
One day, Stevens and Bulger were gone. No trace, no official records. Just two empty bunks and a transfer order that never made it to the central database. Rumors persist: Stevens was devoured by SCP-682; Bulger… just stopped showing up to roll call one day. Reagan never talks about it.
Reagan never asked questions. Not because he didn’t want answers, but because at Site 66, survival meant knowing when to stay silent.
Transition to Epsilon-11:
Reagan went on to earn full Researcher credentials and became known for his testing coordination and dependable planning. Despite his success in the labs, he felt a growing pull toward something larger than the confines of Research. He wanted to improve cooperation between NTF and the Research branch, and he also wanted to take a more active role in protecting the site. Reagan mentioned this desire to transfer to then Head of Research 'Saint', who supported the decision. With that approval, he moved to Epsilon-11 "Nine-Tailed Fox," where his blend of field-hardened instincts and technical expertise quickly proved invaluable during major breach events.
Starting at the very bottom of the chain as a Private, Reagan had to earn every inch of respect in a unit that didn’t care about past lives or second chances. His adaptability in active breach scenarios, especially his ability to stay calm and lethal under extreme pressure, quickly marked him as more than a Research washout. As he climbed the ranks, he took on ever-heavier responsibilities, leading both the Interceptor and Suppressive specialist teams at different points in his career. He served as point man during high-risk recontainment operations and later trained rookies in advanced sweep-and-clear tactics, shaping the next generation of NTF.
Reagan received his callsign after earning the rank of Master Sergeant, during a now-banned loyalty test ran by past leadership. He never viewed himself as a future department leader, but over time he became exactly that: a steady, reliable presence whose priority has always been the lives and well-being of his fellow NTF. He values their safety over personal ambition or reputation, leading with a sense of duty defined by selflessness rather than ego.
When the offer for Warrant Officer came, it was not because of politics, favoritism, or seniority. It was because no one else did what he did, not with his precision, nor with his understanding of how anomalies move, behave, and break. It was because he consistently did what few others could, and because the unit trusted him to stand where others would hesitate.
“Longsword” — not just a weapon, but a philosophy. A tool of finality. Cold, balanced, and relentless. Unlike the flash of a pistol or the brutality of a hammer, the longsword is wielded with patience, discipline, and purpose. Not made for defense. Made to end things.
Current Status:
Now the NTF XO, Longsword is regarded as both an asset and an enigma. Those who know of his D-Class roots either respect him deeply… or watch him warily. But Reagan doesn’t care. His loyalty to Site 66 is absolute, not because he believes in the Foundation, but because it’s the only place that ever gave him a second chance.
And he intends to protect it with steel.
