Longfellow Lawnfest is an opportunity for folks in the greater Longfellow community to invite neighbors and friends into their yards for a celebration of community through music, arts, and more. It will take place on Saturday, October 10 from 4pm-6pm.
Why "lawnfest" and not "porchfest" like in other neighborhoods across Minneapolis? Because Longfellow is a historic neighborhood of bungalows which don't have the large open air porches seen in other neighborhoods, but that doesn't mean we can't invite neighbors into our lawns and yards for some fun!
Weather permitting, Longfellow Lawnfest will take place on Saturday, October 10 from 4pm-6pm.
Many thanks to the hosts who will be welcoming neighbors into their yards. On the map below, you'll see the host yards marked with an icon, the activity they are hosting, and the times they are hosting. Feel free to bring a blanket or chair, but please leave pets at home.
Below you'll also see the addresses broken out by activity, but look to the map for detailed information.

When we say Longfellow, we mean greater Longfellow. That means Cooper, Hiawatha, Howe, and Longfellow neighborhoods. You can learn more about the boundries that make up greater Longfellow here.
Nope! Unlike the porchfest events found in other neighborhoods, Longfellow Lawnfest looks to include a variety of activities, some potential ideas include:
Host acoustic musician for a small outdoor concert
Have an outdoor crafting activity
Invite folks over to learn about starting a food or native garden, using your yard as an example
Host story time or an open mic poetry reading
Have a dance party or host lawn games
It is entirely up to you! Please note, this intended to be a non-commercial, semi-autonomous, community event, so activities that require an exchange of money for goods and/or services (yard sales, fundraising, food sales, etc.) will not be included as highlighted events.
This is the work of 3 neighbors (Christine, Anna, and Vanessa) who met through our volunteer work within the neighborhood. This is very much a grassroots project and a first for us. This isn't attached to a non-profit or organization, although the Longfellow Community Council is providing some marketing assistance to us (many thanks to the LCC 🙂). We just wanted to help make something cool happen for our neighborhood and we are hoping others want to help make that happen too!
