It's your first day in London and there's so much to do. This trip in particular is dedicated to uncovering the history and landmarks special to Mr. William Shakespeare, so let's kick off our trip at the one and only GLOBE THEATER!
The Globe theater has a rich history, and here on your trip to London, you can visit the reconstructed Globe today! Your tour guide is here to walk you through the theater and fill you in on all of the behind the scenes details you'll need to know to be a Globe expert.
After watching the video, write in your trip itinerary the answer to the following question:
How does the theater and the actors work to keep the productions as original and authentic as possible?
During Shakespeare's time, women were not permitted to be actors in plays. It was considered crude and the playhouses were meant for men and "other" kinds of entertainment. In the video, the costume director explains how certain clothing items were used to dress younger boys that were playing the girls.
What is the name of the costume item used to start to create the female shape? How is it laced?
The Globe was (and is!) a true marvel of architecture, art, and functionality. Read through the image here to learn more about the history of The Globe and how each section functioned for a specific purpose.
Which piece of the theater or stage do you find to be the most innovative for it's time? In other words, which part of this construction are you the most impressed by?
