On my squeeze server install I have issues with non-english characters, even though unraid 5b14 has correct locale as utf-8. The problem is that when I view folders on the SqueezeBox I see the doublelettered bad encodings of non-english letters (the 16bit letters in utf-. I'm a Dane so I use non-english letters like ,,. I tracked the bug(?) to a problematic line in the squeezeserver package, a problem which was fixed on my Synology release of SqueezeServer. I tried to report the problem to logitech, not sure where that is gonna end. But is any here interested in the fix? I attached fixed file.

Here is an update to the logitech media server. It turns out it wasn't necessary to patch the server, I just had to set LANG=en_US.utf8 right before invoking the slimserver. This is a much neater solution, than patching. I think my patch in fact just forced utf-8.

edit: off topic but my logitech squeezebox keeps wanting to update firmware switching between radio and music on the lan. For radio it goes to 7.7.2 r9663 and when I decide I want to listen to the NAS it wants a different update to 7.7.1 r9557 as the logitech server version is 7.7.1 (i take it thats the highest we can get here?). Is there anyway I can just downgrade firmware on squeeze to 7.1 so i dont have to reinstall, reboot each time? Thanks for help

I am using a Raspberry Pi4 8GB model as a stand alone Logitech Media Server with USB HD attached . I use the Beta version of Max2play so that I could update the LMS version to 8.0 . However I have noticed that the current LMS Version is 8.1 (with 8.2 a Beta version) . Over the last few weeks every other day my LMS will advise there is an newer version of LMS to download but the only 8.0 version offered is logitechmediaserver_8.0.1~1608617100_arm.deb which was from 22/12/2020 . Is it possible to update the LMS version to 8.1 ? Can I just copy the latest 8.1 Arm deb and insert it ? Will I need to do this each time or will you be offering the 8.1 version as an addition to the nightly updates ?

There is a new device (Squeezebox Server) which is managed by the app and maintains a Telnet connection to the server over which it can send commands but also receive updates on changes. This should have a far lower requirement on hub resources whilst at the same time giving immediate updates on player status changes.

If you would like to use it as mentioned and suggested with Logitech media server and set samba for the possibility to copy your local music files over the network on your SD card than It requires a bit more time to set it up but I covered all how to do it in my step by step installation so better you watch it first before any frustration in that regards, if you follow my steps it will be easy and again a question of minutes.

Today , after a hygiene reboot of my OMV 3 on my BananaPi my Squezzebox Server won't start. I produced a lot of CPU load, but the internal Webserver won't initialize and also no logfile produced any usable output, so after some try and error, I decided to reinstall.

since I was not sure, if Squeezebox server will run also with OMV3 I found this forum post.....

I used exactly your short installation guide (of course I changed the download to the ARM version.....uninstalled my old version and re-installed the new version and.....it worked.

Thank you for the forum post...... logitechmediaserver_7.9.0~1488878280 is working on OMV3

Hm, maybe a debian chroot isn't a silver bullet.

Since this "logitech media server" isn't something that just comes prebuilt in Debian repositories but is just a third party application downloaded from here , the perl architecture issue you mentioned here may still exist Logitech Media Server LMS - #21 by rwl408?

since they bundle the Perl interpreter application, and it is compiled for x86_64 (normal PC), "ARM" whatever their own interpretation of this term is. ANd on top of that it's probably expecting an OS with Glibc like most Linux PC or Raspberry Pi distros are.

1 - You may want to check if the libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl package got installed as intended (that package, per the output you've included, is a dependency for the logitechmediaserver_8.3.1_amd64.deb package) by running the following command:

2 - To check what files (and their respective locations) will be / have been installed by installing the logitechmediaserver_8.3.1_amd64.deb package, run the following command in the same directory (folder) of that file:

4 - If the logitechmediaserver package is still not installed in your computer, run the command to install it, by running the following command in the folder (directory) where you saved the logitechmediaserver_8.3.1_amd64.deb file:

Apparently, the installation of that logitechmediaserver package will start a web server in the computer where you installed it and it will be listening in port 9000. So you may want to try to use your web browser to access the "Logitech Media Server" Web interface at -address-of-your-computer:9000 (replace "IP-address-of-your-computer" by the IP address of your computer)

This post suggests specifying the IP addr of the server on the Squeezelite Client.

"Squeezelite has a command line interface with many options which affect squeezelite output device and playback but I think the option "-s" enables you to enter server IP address."

I will give the "-s" switch a try, hopefully that works. My other "try" will be to mirror my media server on another drive directly plugged into the Pi via USB, although others have recommended not doing that. I will let you know my findings. Thank you. Q: Why can packets not be broadcast from one wireless interface to another? In my head that makes no sense to me......but I m NOT a networking pro.

Unlike HYSOLID, LMS + Squeezelite has a lot more capabilities. It is also a media server, can play internet radio, and with Qobuz, TIDAL, and Spotify streaming support already integrated. HYSOLID can only play from one folder in local disk. In LMS, multiple music folders can be set, either local disks or network drives.

I have been streaming music including playlists (m3u files) via a Logitech Media server (LMS) which is installed on a Micro VortexBox from Small Green Computer. With the Naim App I can access the Music folder on the LMS server and play all files in the subfolders Artists, Albums, Genres etc. I can also access the VortexBox Media Server via the Naim App, including subfolders All Music, Artists, Albums and Playlists; however, the Playlists folder is empty.

If you are looking for a lightweight Linux-based server or media center, this might just be the ticket. Keep in mind that it has 100Mbps ethernet, so, not really a speed demon when it comes to data transfer. But it should be able to play video content just fine. No 4K here, though. (it does have 4K)

Thanks for all of the information. I installed via pkg but run into an error when I try to start the service:

Hey Simone,

thank you so much for this tutorial! Everything works fine so far, except one thing: My SqueezeBox Radio refuses to connect to the new LMS server (version 8), saying that the LMS server needs an update. The version check probably fails. I can still assign an SBox Radio to a particular LMS-Server (I have one per child, so switching them is essential for me) but do you know any workaround? Should I try an older version of the LMS?

Thanks for you help!

Next go into the Synaptic Package Manager (using the menus System -> Administration) and then type logitechmediaserver in the Quick Search box and then place a check against logitechmediaserver in the list of results returned and click Mark For Installation. Choose any additional packages too and then click the Apply button and then the Apply button once again for confirmation. 2351a5e196
