How to Reset AOL Mail Password?

The main concern for the mail user is to remember their password and when the user does not use their AOL mail or any other mail the user tends to forget the password. For security reasons the user needs to keep on changing their password every three months, and if the user has forgotten their AOL email password then can follow the below points.

Steps of AOL Mail Password Reset Process:-

If the user has forgotten the password of their AOL mail then in that case the user needs to follow the below steps.

  • The user needs to click on the button of Forgot Password, the user can see this button on the bottom of the login dialogue box, this will be on the sign-in page.

  • As the user clicks on this it will open the application for password reset and here the user will be required to provide either their AOL username or their registered email address.

  • The user needs to make sure that they remember either of them because if the user has forgotten both the username and the email address then in that case the user will not be able to reset their password.

  • Then the user needs to click on the Done button.

  • If the user follows each step correctly then their AOL account will be now Outlook and the messages will download in their account.

Why IMAP?

With IMAP protocols users can access their AOL mail and they can respond by any of the compatible email or any other application but for this, the user needs to enter information about AOL mail account.

AOL email suggests the IMAP settings in the email client leaving the POP3 settings, but AOL email supports both of the protocols.

The IMAP settings sync the service with the user’s AOL email, anything the user does with an email service or on the application it will be shown in the AOL mail interface at AOL.

The POP setting does not sync the email actions, the POP settings do not work as the IMAP setting; they can only download the copy of emails from AOL. And if the user deletes their email from one place their email won’t get deleted from another place.

Fix problems signing into your AOL account

You have important things to do in your AOL account, so let's get you back in! If you're having issues signing into your account, review the info in the guide below to fix things like account locks, password issues, and other access issues.

Account and password issues

You forgot your username or password

Use the Sign-in Helper to locate your username and regain access to your account by entering your recovery mobile number or alternate email address.

• If you know your username but need to reset your password, make sure you create a strong password after you're back in your account.

• If your browser remembers passwords, you can check your autofill settings to find your password.

You get an "Invalid Password" error

This error message means that the username and password combination you entered doesn't match what we have on record. Consider the following:

Check "caps lock" or "num lock" keys - These keys change the value of what you're actually typing.

Update your browser autofill settings - If your browser remembers passwords, you may need to update your autofill settings after changing your password.

Try another web browser - If you can access your account in another browser, the problem isn't with your account; you'll need to fix the issue in your preferred browser.

Someone changed your password - An unauthorized party could have broken in and changed your password. Use the Sign-in Helper to get back into your account and change your password. Then, review your account settings to undo changes you didn't make and secure your account.

Other sign-in issues

You get a "First time signing in here?" message

If you sign in from a device, program, or location that we haven't seen you use before, we may ask you to enter a verification code (sent to your recovery mobile phone or email address) to verify that it's really you. If the recovery options displayed for your account are out-of-date, go to the "Still can't get signed in?" section of this help article for more info.

Two-step verification is enabled but you're not asked to verify your identity

You'll be sent a verification code the first time you sign in from a device, browser, or location you haven't used before. After successful verification, you may not be prompted to enter a verification code again when you sign in using the same device, browser, or location. Go to your Recent activity page to deauthorize a device, browser, or location.

Your sign-in screen loops or reloads

If you're caught in a loop where the sign-in screen keeps reappearing after you click "Sign in," you'll need to reset the "sign-in" cookie.

1. After entering your username on the sign-in page, click Not you?

2. Enter your username and password.

3. Click Sign in.

If that doesn't fix the problem, try these steps and attempt to sign in after each one:

1. Clear your browser's cookies.

2. Quit and then restart your browser.

3. Use a different supported web browser.

4. Try logging into a different sign-in page, like our primary login page or the AOL Mail sign-in page.

Use POP or IMAP to sync AOL Mail on a third-party app or download your email

You can use a third-party email app to download a copy of your AOL Mail email or to send and receive emails, if you'd prefer a different interface. There are two different protocols you can choose when setting up a third-party email app: POP or IMAP.

POP downloads a copy of your emails from your account (mail.aol.com) to the app. This means that if you delete an email from your account after it's been downloaded, the downloaded copy remains in the app. Additionally, POP only downloads emails from the Inbox (not personalized folders), so to download all of your emails, you'd need to move email from existing folders to the Inbox.

IMAP, however, continually syncs the app and your account to keep the information in both places identical. This means that anything you do with messages or folders in your account at mail.aol.com will also occur in the app (and vice versa).

Below are the POP and IMAP server settings you'll need to use for AOL Mail and links to common email app setup instructions. If you need specific help configuring your app, contact its manufacturer.

AOL Mail POP and IMAP settings

Most email software and applications have an account settings menu where you'll need to update the IMAP or POP3 settings. When entering your account info, make sure you use your full email address, including @aol.com, and that the SSL encryption is enabled for incoming and outgoing mail.

Protocol -POP 3

Server Settings-Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.aol.com

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.aol.com

Port Settings- POP3-995-SSL

SMTP-465-SSL

Protocol -IMAP-

Server Settings-Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.aol.com

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.aol.com

Port Settings- IMAP-993-SSL

SMTP-465-SSL

Settings may be in a different location in each email client, though the AOL server and port settings will always be the same.
