In Episode 03, Logan challenges the culture of 24/7 hustle and explores the idea of “tithing your time” through the practice of Sabbath. Drawing from Scripture and leadership lessons, he discusses the importance of hard work, intentional rest, and trusting God enough to step away from the grind.
What's up guys, welcome back to The Logan Mascarenhas Show. If you've tuned into the podcast before, you know I'm passionate about building real things, whether that's projects, businesses, or just personal growth. But if you know me, you also know I'm completely against the 24/7 hustle culture. Society loves to tell us that if you're working every single waking second, you're falling behind. If you aren't staring at screen at 2am, you just don't want it bad enough. But today I want to challenge that whole mindset with a perspective that applies to everyone, whether you're running a business, balancing high school, or working a job, or playing sports. And that's the concept of the Sabbath, and why we need to start tithing our time. In Proverbs 3 verses 9 through 10, the Bible says, "Oner the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops, then your barns will be filled to overflowing." In church, we talk a lot about this when it comes to money. Tithing means giving your first 10% back to God as an act of faith, gratitude, and of trust. It's about offering your first fruits, which means the absolute best of what comes in, not just tossing whatever loose change you happen to have in your pocket at the end of the month. But you need to ask yourself, how often do we actually do that with our time? Most of us tree our energy, our rest, and our relationship with God using a leftover mentality. We work until our brains are completely fried, scroll on our phones to midnight, and then try to give God or families whatever 2% energy we have left. Practicing a true Sabbath flips that entire mall on its head, it flips the script. It's literally tithing your time. It means looking at your week and intentionally locking in time for God and real rest first, rather than fitting in if you happen to have extra time. I was recently reading a book by Craig Groeschel. It's called "Winning the Word" in your mind, and he was talking about how he prepares his sermons. He said something that really stuck with me. He said, "I believe that if I prepare my heart, God will help me prepare the message." So, think about what that actually means. Faith isn't an excuse to be sloppy, lazy, or unprepared during the week. Craig Groeschel, he puts in intense, disciplined effort to prepare so that when it's time to deliver, he can completely trust God with the outcome. And that's how all work week and our Sabbath are supposed to interact. You work hard and give 100% excellence for six days. You handle your business, set boundaries, and finish what you start. And then, on the seventh day, you intentionally shut it down and rest. When you put in honest work, you'll find that you can step into rest without feeling guilty or anxious about what's left to do on your to-do list. And guys, I'm going to be 100% honest. This is something I still struggle with all the time. Building businesses and managing projects that drive to keep working, it's constantly there. Turning off my brain and walking away from a project feels hard because the grind can be addicting. But that's why this Sabbath needs to be a discipline and not just a feeling. Here's why stepping away is so hard for entrepreneurs and high achievers. Listen to this. It forces you to admit you aren't the one in ultimate control. One culture is built on self-reliance. It says, "My success is 100% on my shoulders, so if I pause, everything falls apart." But when you choose to take a Sabbath, you're making a huge statement. You're saying, "I will work hard with the gifts I've been given, but I trust God enough to step away and know that He sustains my life, not my constant hustle." Being against 24/7 grind isn't about being lazy. It's about rejecting the idol of work. So you can work at 100% when it's time to work and rest at 100% when it's time to rest. So here's my challenge for you this week. Okay, your calendar before the week kicks off. Stop giving your rest and your faith the leftovers. Schedule your downtime, set your phone aside, and start tithing your time. Work hard and prepare during the week, so you can truly rest when that Sabbath comes. If this resonated with you today, feel free to share this episode with a friend or maybe even someone who's burning themselves out right now. Thanks for listening guys, and I'll catch you in the next episode.
