This piece is essentially a short concerto for the top 2 voices of a quartet:
I. Moderato (sonata form) II. Chorale (binary form) III. Fugue
Compound ternary form, with the main theme (D minor) inverted to create the middle section (D major).
Song form with introduction. The intro is restated as a coda in some arrangements.
