Effective date: November 9, 2025
Version: 1.0
LocalPass is an offline password manager. By default, your passwords and entries are stored only on your device and never transmitted to our servers. We do not collect or sell your passwords or personal data. Any optional export or cloud-backup features are performed only if you explicitly enable them and give consent.
This Privacy Policy explains how LocalPass (“we”, “us”, or “LocalPass”) handles information when you download, install, or use the LocalPass app. LocalPass is designed to store passwords and related data locally on your device. Please read this policy carefully. By using LocalPass you agree to the practices described here.
Local data (on-device only): Passwords, usernames, notes, secure notes, and any data you manually store in the app are saved locally on your device. This data is never sent to our servers unless you choose to export or back it up (see below).
Device permissions: If you enable optional features (e.g., biometric unlock), LocalPass may request access to relevant device APIs (biometrics, local storage). These permissions are used only to enable the feature on your device.
We do not collect, transmit, or store your passwords, secure notes, or other vault contents on our servers by default.
We do not use third-party analytics, trackers, or advertising to collect usage data (unless you enable an opt-in diagnostic feature—see Section 6).
Certain features are optional and will only run if you explicitly enable them:
Cloud backup / sync / export: If you choose to export or back up your vault (for example, exporting to a file, or enabling a cloud sync option), data may leave your device to the destination or service you choose (e.g., a cloud provider or file you select). LocalPass will clearly ask for your consent before doing so and will explain the destination and format of the exported data. You are responsible for the security and privacy of third-party services used for backups.
Biometric unlock: If you enable biometric unlocking (fingerprint, Face ID), LocalPass will use your device’s secure biometric APIs. Biometric data never leaves your device and is not stored by LocalPass.
Diagnostics / crash reports (opt-in): If you opt in to send diagnostic or crash reports, the app may transmit limited technical information (app version, device model, OS version, stack traces). This information does not include your stored passwords or secure notes.
On-device encryption: Vault data is protected on your device using strong encryption (industry-standard cryptographic techniques). The encryption key is derived from the master password or passphrase you set. We do not have access to your master password.
No server-side copies: By default there are no copies of your vault stored on our servers.
User responsibility: If you forget your master password and have not exported/backed up your vault, LocalPass cannot recover your encrypted data.
No sharing by default: We do not share your vault contents with third parties.
Third-party services you choose: If you export or back up data to third-party services (cloud storage, email, drive), your data will be subject to that service’s privacy practices. LocalPass is not responsible for those third parties.
Libraries and SDKs: LocalPass may use necessary third-party libraries (cryptography libraries, OS APIs). These libraries are included to provide app functionality and do not result in transmission of your vault contents to us.
Default behavior: The app does not collect analytics or track usage.
Optional reporting: If you opt in to diagnostic reporting, only technical diagnostic data will be collected to help fix crashes and improve the app. You may disable this at any time in settings.
On-device data: Your data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Deleting the vault or uninstalling the app removes stored data from the device (subject to device OS behavior — e.g., some OS-level backups may persist if you enabled them).
Backups and exports: Files you export (backups, CSVs, encrypted exports) remain wherever you save them. You are responsible for deleting those if you no longer want them retained.
LocalPass is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. If we make material changes we will indicate the new effective date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, notify users in the app.
Use a strong, unique master password for LocalPass.
Enable device-level lock (PIN, passcode) and biometric protections.
Keep your device OS and the LocalPass app up to date.
If you export or back up your vault, keep the exported file encrypted and stored in a secure location.
