Kent, Ohio, founded in 1805 along the Cuyahoga River as Franklin Mills, evolved from a 19th-century canal and railroad hub into a prominent college town centered around Kent State University. Shaped by the tragedy of the May 4, 1970, National Guard shootings, early industrial accidents, and a tragic 1878 asylum fire, Kent's history has generated a deep local collection of ghost stories and supernatural lore.
