Local Content Filter — Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
Local Content Filter is a browser extension that works together with a program running on your own computer (the "local service") to blur explicit images and block adult websites. This policy explains what the extension does with the pages and content it has access to.
What it needs access to, and why
The extension requests permission to read and act on every page you visit (<all_urls>). This is required for it to work on any website, since it can't know in advance which sites might need checking. It uses this access only to:
— Look at images, video frames, and page addresses so they can be checked against the local service.
— Blur or block content the local service identifies as explicit, or that matches the adult-site list.
— Apply SafeSearch settings to supported search engines and YouTube.
What never leaves your computer
All image and video checking happens on a service running on the same computer, listening only on 127.0.0.1 (a loopback address that isn't reachable from the internet or any other device). Images, video frames, and page content are sent to this local service and nowhere else. Nothing is uploaded to us, to the extension developer, or to any third party.
What is stored, and where
The local service keeps a small activity log — timestamps, the kind of event (e.g. "image blocked"), the website's domain name, and a confidence score — stored only on your own computer. It does not store the images or video themselves. This log exists so the person managing the filter can review activity from the dashboard; it is never transmitted anywhere by default.
If you configure optional email alerts, the local service will send an email (using the mail server you provide) when the extension appears to have been disabled. No other data is included in that email beyond what's necessary to describe the alert.
No analytics, no ad tracking
This extension does not use analytics services, does not display ads, and does not sell or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
