Local AI Translator is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how our extension handles data and reinforces our "local-by-design" architecture.
Local AI Translator does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data, browsing history, or translated text to external servers. All translation processing is performed entirely on your local device using Chrome's built-in AI models (Gemini Nano).
Our extension requests specific permissions to function, used strictly as follows:
Host Permissions (<all_urls>): Required to enable the "Import Page Content" feature. This allows you to pull text from any website into the side panel for translation. The text is read locally and never leaves your browser.
activeTab & Scripting: Used only when you click the "Import" button to retrieve text from the current page.
SidePanel: Used to provide a persistent, non-intrusive UI for your translations.
Storage: Used to save your local UI preferences (like language selection) on your machine.
By leveraging Chrome's built-in AI, this extension ensures that your sensitive information remains private. Unlike cloud-based translators, the linguistic analysis and generation happen in your browser’s memory, meaning:
No third-party AI providers receive your text.
No logs of your translations are created on our end.
Your data remains under your physical control at all times.
This extension interacts with Google Chrome's internal APIs. We do not integrate with any third-party analytics, tracking scripts, or advertising networks.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with an updated "Last Updated" date. Because the extension does not collect user contact information, we encourage users to check this page periodically.
If you have any questions regarding your privacy while using Local AI Translator, please contact us through our official support channel on the Chrome Web Store.
