Random Structures: from the Discrete to the Continuous

LMS Research School on Probability at the University of Bath


1-5 July 2019

The push to understand the behaviour of continuous scaling limits arising from discrete random structures is a major ongoing development in probability theory. This research school will give PhD students in probability the opportunity to meet and learn from international experts at the forefront of this exciting and fast moving field.

Registration will be confirmed within two weeks after the deadline; information about individual applications will not be available before then.


Registration includes:

  • Five nights on-campus accommodation* (single bed with en-suite bathroom, dinner and breakfast included)
*for research students and early career researchers only - other participants will have to contribute to their subsistence costs (accommodation, breakfasts and dinners)
  • All lunches and coffee breaks
  • Monday evening welcome reception
  • Wednesday afternoon excursion to historic Roman Baths

Registration fee:

  • Research students: £150
Half of the fee will be waived for students based at the University of Bath or the University of Bristol who do not require on-campus accommodation, breakfast, and dinners.
  • Early career researchers*: £250
* within five years of completing their PhD (excluding career breaks).
  • Other participants: £250 + subsistence costs (accommodation, breakfasts and dinners)

Fees are not payable until a place at the Research School is offered but will be due by 4 June 2019.

Financial Aid:

Research students who will not have completed their PhD by the start of the Research School and who would otherwise be unable to attend can apply for financial aid.
