Mike Tamura - Head Sensei

Mike is currently the President of Judo Canada (a board member of Judo Canada since 1997), General-Secretary of the Pan American Judo Confederation, and a Director - Coordination Committee of the International Judo Federation. He is past President of the Lethbridge Judo Club and the University Judo Club and Past President of Judo Alberta (1997 to 2003). He is a NCCP Certified Level 3 Coach, and International A Referee. He has been on the Provincial Grading Board and a member of the Lethbridge Judo Club since 1973-1974. A former National Junior Champion, he has competed Internationally while training at the Lethbridge Judo Club under his Sensei Yosh Senda. Mike is currently a 6th degree black belt. He has two University Degrees (University of Lethbridge and University of Calgary). He has Several businesses in Southern Alberta but his main company is Quest Support Services Inc.

Trevor Hazell – President

Trevor started Judo in 1993 at the Joe Meli Judo Club. A long-time member of the Judo Alberta Executive, and is currently the President of Judo Alberta. Trevor is a former Provincial Judo Alberta Coach and the head coach for the Airdrie Judo Club. A Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt), and is now part of the Lethbridge Judo Club Coaching Staff. Trevor is an Engineering Design Technologist and Managing Partner of Instream Water Control Projects

Brad Seeman – Vice President

Brad graduated from Fire ETC in Vermillion with his 1001 (Certified Fire fighter 2003), but eventually went back to school to obtain his Red Seal Journeyman Certificate in Roofing. He is co-owner of Water Proofing Roofing but also has a few other businesses in Southern Alberta. His Judo life started in 1987. He achieved his Shodan in 1999. Brad was a 4-time junior Canadian national medalist (1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze) along with 1 gold and 1 silver at US Nationals. Brad is now part of the Coaching staff as a teacher of the beginner judo class and an Assistant Coach with the intermediate class. Brad was the Captain of the Lethbridge Cosmos (rep soccer) for 4 years.

Angie Gallant - Treasurer

Angie is the former managing partner of York West Asset Management Group. York West was a major player in property management throughout Western Canada. Angie was involved in overseeing property managers and accounts of major assets in Edmonton and Calgary. Since coming to Lethbridge, Angie has started her own property management company and oversees properties in Southern Alberta.

Frank Nemeth – Secretary/Registrar

Frank Nemeth, LKJC board member for the past four years and parent of a Judoka for the past 13 years. He has two degrees, a B.Sc. in Chemistry and B.Ed. from the U of L, which is where he was introduced to and fell in love with Judo. In addition to Judo, Frank has been involved with Soccer for the past 45 years as a player, coach and more recently, refereeing. Currently, he is employed by Lethbridge School District No 51 where he provides academic advising, teaches high school Chemistry, Physics, General Science, Math and Computer courses.

Adam Ross – Board Member

Adam grew up playing many different sports, excelling in competitive snowboarding and judo as a young child. He found his passion for Judo and returned as an adult back in 2010. Currently a brown belt, He has competed in the Edmonton International and several other tournaments working towards his 1st degree black belt. Adam is working on his NCCP Level 1 Coaching as he looks forward to working with the young and old judoka. Today Adam is an active outdoorsman as he enjoys hunting, snowboarding and his true passion of fly fishing.

Adam is the successful owner of Rossco’s Tree Service which has been in business since 2007. He is a certified utility arborist with an international certified arborist and a certified pesticide applicator. Adam has joined the board in October 2017 with three daughters working their way to becoming National Level Athletes, he is excited to work with everyone on the board.

Lynn Westlake – Board Member

Originally from Calgary, Lynn moved to Lethbridge in 2004. A Registered Nurse, Lynn is in her 25th year of nursing having specialized in psychogeriatric and long-term care. Growing up in Calgary Lynn was exposed to many sports, none of which inspired her as much as Judo. Lynn is in her 3rd year as a member of the Lethbridge Kyodokan Judo Club Board of Directors, and a member of the Club Coaching Staff. She is currently working through the NCCP coaching certifications. Lynn’s husband and two daughters are all involved as members of the Lethbridge Judo Club. Lynn’s daughter Kiera is part of the Judo Canada High Performance Program which competes for Canada at International Events and her sister Tegan is trying to follow in her big sister’s footsteps as well as help out at the Pre-Judo Class. Lynn and her family continue to put many hours on and off the mat. Lynn is currently a Brown Belt and is anticipating going for her Shodan (Black Belt) in the very near future.

Ewan Beaton – RTC Coach, Judo Alberta Provincial Coach

An 11 year Veteran of the National Team, he retired from competitive competition in 1996. A two time Olympian (1992 & 1996), 1995 Pan American Games Champion, 1991 Silver Medalist Pan Am Games and a 5 time Canadian Champion.

As a coach, he is the current Regional Training Center Coach for Judo Canada. He has coached internationally at many events and has been part of the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Coaching staff for Judo Canada. A National Junior Team Coach and Coaching Coordinator for Judo Canada from 1999 till 2008. He has dual roles throughout his coaching career as a Provincial Coach for Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and now Judo Alberta. Currently a 5th degree black belt and currently working on his NCCP Advance Coaching Diploma (Level 4).

Russell Gallant – HP Coach LJC

Russ was a two-sport elite player in both Baseball and Judo. Started his own business as a Roofer and began his own business in 1999 called Waterproofing Roofing. Today Russ is an entrepreneur with several companies in the Southern Alberta Area. Russ is a Multiple National Medalist and Head Coach of the Lethbridge Judo Club since 2013. He has coached at International Tournaments taking Team Canada to Germany, France, and Hungary. Russ has produced many National Champions in such a short time as well as International Athletes that have competed at the Francophone Games, World Cadets, World Juniors and on the IJF Tour. He is an NCCP 3 Coach and currently a 4th degree black belt
