IPP Pre-op Instructions

HOW TO TAKE THE MEDICATIONS

Please note over-the-counter medications (OTC) need to be purchased on your own and you may not get or need assistance from a pharmacist to obtain these prescriptions.

BEFORE THE PROCEDURE:

  1. Please take Bactrim DS (Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole) in the morning and evening starting two days before the procedure date (with a sip of water only) and resume the day after the procedure taking both morning and evening. Antibiotic

Note: Patients with Diabetes will be prescribed an antifungal drug called Fluconazole 200mg. This is to be taken daily starting two days prior to the procedure in addition to the antibiotic. You will continue this, the morning of the procedure, and after the procedure until finished. Antifungal

  1. Please wash the skin head to toe with Hibiclens (OTC) solution (PINK SOAP) one time per day for two days prior (before) to the procedure. Please rinse well after application. May irritate the skin if not rinsed thoroughly. Please DO NOT FOLLOW application directions on the bottle about avoiding the genital area.

  2. Acetaminophen 500mg (Tylenol Extra Strength) - Pain medication. Start taking the 1 day before the procedure. 2 tablets every 8 hours.

  3. Gabapentin 300 mg (Neurontin) - Pain medication. Start taking the 1 day before the procedure. 1 tablet every 8 hours.

  4. Do not shave the SCROTAL AREA within 1 week prior to the procedure. Dr. Jenkins will do this himself on the day of the procedure. Shaving the scrotal area prior to the procedure increases bacterial colony count on the skin.
