IPP Post-op Instructions
DR. JENKINS’ POSTOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR
PENILE IMPLANT SURGERY on a Friday
YOU ARE TO EXPECT
Small amounts of drainage on your dressings
Pain, tenderness, swelling, and bruising for several days after your surgery.
Nausea may be experienced for 24-36 hours after your operation due to the anesthesia.
You should already have prescriptions for pain medicine and antibiotics.
You should already have an appointment for a post-operative visit with Dr. Jenkins within the first 2 weeks after your surgery.
INSTRUCTIONS
Monday - Remove the drain by removing the dressing and then cutting the black or blue stitch securing it in place. After the stitch is cut gently, pull the drain, it is approx 8-12 inches long on the inside. An example video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/gr2TYEXtOnA
Remove the wrap dressing Saturday afternoon.
If the scrotal dressing becomes soiled, replace it with a similarly sized clean gauze dressing but you do not have to wrap it.
Keep the scrotal support on for at least one week.
Position your penis upwards on your abdomen as much as possible.
For 2-3 days, place an ice pack inside the scrotal support (not directly in contact with the skin).
Drink plenty of fluids.
Eat lightly the remainder of the day of surgery, then return to a regular diet as tolerated.
Make sure your bowels function normally since pain medications can cause constipation. You may need to use stool softeners such as MiraLax to help your bowels function normally.
Finish your antibiotics.
You may shower on Sunday, but avoid tub baths for 2 full weeks.
You may walk around the home and upstairs immediately, but carefully.
When sitting, raise your legs.
Do not lift any heavy objects (greater than 15 lbs) for at least 2 weeks after surgery.
CALL FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS
Fevers over 100.5 degrees.
Excessive drainage from your wound, especially blood or pus
Pain or scrotal swelling that is not improving after the first week following surgery
Redness around the wound.
