Elizabeth Winer for Cheney School Board

Hi, I'm Elizabeth Winer

I am a mom of two Snowdon Elementary students, a high school science teacher at Insight School of Washington, and a wife of a professor of mathematics education at Eastern Washington University.  I have lived in Cheney since 2017.  When we moved to the area, we specifically chose to live in the Cheney area so we could be part of the community and our children could attend Cheney Public Schools.  Education is my passion: I have been teaching for 11 years and have a master’s degree in education.  I was selected to fill a vacant seat by the Cheney Public Schools board of directors in June 2023.  My goal as a school board director to help support the public education in my community.  My leadership experiences include being on the board of directors of the Big Sky homeowners’ association, leading science department meetings, and mentoring the middle school science professional learning community at my school, and I frequently volunteer at Snowdon Elementary.

I believe Cheney Public Schools is a wonderful district full of opportunities.  Students should be supported academically, socially, and emotionally so they can reach their post-secondary goals.  Our teachers and support staff should be treated as professionals and given the support they need to help our students reach their full potential. We need to address the rapid growth of our district and ensure that everyone has a safe and enriching place to work and learn.  I promise to value all viewpoints and focus on problem solving using specific, achievable goals.
