AbstractCommunity wealth building (CWB) has emerged in recent years, aiming to anchor meaningful jobs and real wealth in communities and improve community asset ownership. Originally applied in Cleveland, USA, this approach to short-circuiting extractive economies has since spread to other urban spaces around the world. In November 2021, for example, the City of Chicago made a historic $15 million commitment to invest in community wealth building. This investment aimed to strengthen the local cooperative ecosystem through funding worker cooperatives, community land trusts, limited-equity housing cooperatives, and community investment vehicles. The 1.5-hour session will provide the opportunity to learn from CWB initiatives in Chicago and converse with some key figures from Chicago Community Wealth Building Ecosystem, the ‘Research & Convening’ hub for Chicago’s CWB experiment.Featuring: Stacey Sutton, Chicago Community Wealth Building Ecosystem; Peter North, University of Liverpool; Others TBC
