AbstractWhat does ‘managing’ mean? Who does it? What does this action-concept entail? Why is the project management work not valued, nurtured and celebrated? Can Project Management be reframed so that it no longer is cordoned off as ‘Admin’ as opposed to ‘real’ academic work? The success of our research, educational, artistic and activist projects relies on excellent coordination, communication, planning, budget tweeking and team mood support. So why is the work of making everything happen often out-sourced to someone with no familiarity with the values and ethos of a community economies approach? Or the job is offered to graduate students who need to make a living but have little prior experience with complex, multi-sited, multi-year projects? This session offers a space to reflect on the job of ‘Project Management’. Participants are invited to share their positive and negative experiences of projects, and what works when it comes to ‘management’. We could discuss how a Non-University Educational and Research Organization (NUERO) might develop ways of breaking down the barrier between Admin and Academia and come up with new ways of enacting and naming Project Coordination as Commoning. This session offers a space to reflect on the job of ‘Project Management’.
