AbstractWe reside in the Italian Alps, where the alpine and Mediterranean climates seamlessly merge. This means we live in the middle of Europe’s second-largest biodiversity. Here, we still benefit from the presence of civic lands (collective properties) designated for communal use. These lands carry historical rights and obligations that grant local residents access, enabling them to sustain their livelihoods while encouraging preservation and potential enhancement for future generations. These lands are currently either not used and managed by the community or, in a few cases, managed by a restrictive and quite closed group, mainly due to a lack of transparency about where these lands are actually located and a lack of knowledge about them. In a 6-month performative research process, we mapped the collective land of our valley and made it open-access. Our proposal is to find ways to reclaim civic lands and bring their management and redefinition into our contemporary daily lives. What new climate-care actions, community maintenance activities, and community economy practices can emerge from here? As part of the Liviana Conference, we would like to propose a hybrid session in which we share and discuss the research, mapping, and activation process in the Lagarina Valley around civic land. We will share the history and the current situation of the civic properties in the valley, and then we will speculate together about future forms of management and the activation of community economy practices through art and design. We would like to close the session doing a walk to some civic land pieces. Event will take place in English initially, and the walk likely in Italian. There is a limit of 15 in-person attendees. We assume most people joining the walk live close to Rovereto. Please register in advance, so we know how many people will join us for the walk, as we may need to organize car-sharing to reach the location. We will start from La Foresta. The address is: La Foresta - Accademia di Comunità: P.le Paolo Orsi, 15-17, 38068 Rovereto TN.
