Abstract

This session builds on a previous CERN Asia symposium, an interview/discussion with Marie Lisa Dacanay, founding President of the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA) with over 30 years of experience in social entrepreneurship and development cooperation in Asia. We discuss social enterprise, rural resilience, gender, wellbeing, with questions framed from diverse/community economies perspectives, with questions around economic cooperation among social enterprises and how this is/can be activated in terms of product and expertise exchange/trade, how do social enterprises negotiate their relations with mainstream capitalist enterprises, how social enterprises navigate political relations with local and national governments, what are the learnings in negotiating power relations and economic goals at various scales, and similarities/differences in different countries in terms of business models. There will be a 1-hour discussion involving Marie Lisa Dacanay, Isaac Lyne, Pryor Placino, Anne Hill, and Istvan Rado, followed by questions from and discussion with the online audience for the remaining half hour.
