Abstract
This session is designed as an open exchange and wishes to explore what others are concerned about while adopting a PAR(-ish) approach in perhaps more hierarchical contexts. Is PAR desirable in not fully democratic organizational contexts (e.g. many enterprises) to begin with? What alternative methodologies/approaches do exist that nonetheless attempt to be impactful? Despite the promises of PAR for organizational research, there are still profound issues involved that call for some tentative strategies for dealing with them. To the extent that PAR questions the hierarchical researcher-researched division of labour, the question arises: how can we enroll organizations in funding applications? How do we negotiate limited time resources of organizations and the scarcity of funding schemes that remunerate organizations (and what other forms of creating interdependency are possible)? How to deal with the different stakes involved, especially if we are initially "outsiders"? To the extent that the organization is not a black box but a conflictive multitude that negotiates the terms of being-in-common, how do we engage with marginalized perspectives (intersectionality and the more-than-human come to mind) without deteriorating their position? To the extent that we observe problematic aspects, which methods are most enabling to discuss them? Can PAR in hierarchical contexts also contribute to care-washing etc.? These are some of the issues that the session wants to address. Participants are invited to send further questions and issues prior to the session, or we explore them within the session. The last 20 minutes shall be dedicated to the question how to continue from here.
