Abstract
Community Economies scholars and practitioners are frequently asked questions about scale and localism, for example, How can community economies ‘scale-up’? Are community economies always local? One way of responding to these types of questions is to deconstruct familiar ways of thinking about scale and localism, and to diversify the language that we use to consider these concerns. On the final day of the CEI Summer/Winter School, 1 to 9 June 2022, participants made brief 5-minute presentations to respond to some of the frequently asked questions/concerns that are posed about community economies research and practice, including questions about scale and localism. This Liviana III session is based on the presentations that four participants from Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia made in response to the question of scale and localism. In the session, the participants present their original Summer/Winter School presentations and then outline how their thinking about scale and localism has developed in the 5 months since the Summer/Winter School.
