It's finally here. The 2021 season is upon us and your Buccaneers are kicking the whole thing off as they host the Dallas Cowboys at home on Thursday night. It's Tampa Bay's first chance at their Super Bowl LV title defense as they field the same championship team after bringing all 22 2020 starters back.The game will be broadcast nationally with NBC's Sunday Night Football crew. There will also be a day-long celebration around Tampa in honor of NFL Kickoff. Coverage of the festivities will be carried on NFL Network as well as NBC prior to the game.If you're coming to the game, be sure to get there early. On the other hand, last year was nothing to brag about for Dallas (6-10), so the team is looking forward to a new start.
A couple last-season defensive stats to keep an eye on: The Buccaneers were the best in rushing touchdowns allowed, finishing the 2020 season giving up only ten. Less enviably, the Cowboys ranked second worst with respect to rushing yards allowed per game last season, where the squad gave up 158.8 on average. The good news for Dallas, of course, is that these forces working against them might not carry over into the new season.
Tampa Bay is the favorite in this one, with an expected 8.5-point margin of victory. But these early season matchups can go either way as both teams get back into playing shape.

Just some words of warning to all those picking Week 1 NFL games: Expect the unexpected.
Even with three preseason games this year, compared to none last season because of COVID-19, it's always tough to try and get a gauge on how good teams are entering Week 1.
That's why picking games is a challenge early in the season. Some teams played starters in the preseason, while others did not. Some showed stuff, while most did not. Evaluations are always tough coming out of the preseason.
There are no double-digit spreads this week, with three games tied for the biggest at 7.5 points. Those three games are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers favored over the Cowboys, the San Francisco 49ers over the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams over the Chicago Bears. I like the 'dogs in two of those games.
Last season was just OK for me picking games. I did do a nice job on my Best Bets as part of the Pick Six Podcast, which is a show that will return again this year. That's when I get to dominate host Will Brinson — who always finishes last.

The Bucs return all 22 starters as the defending champions, which makes this a tough, tough road challenge to open for Dallas. The Cowboys do have Dak Prescott back, but the Tampa Bay defense will be better this year and Dallas will be without All-Pro guard Zack Martin. Something tells me the Cowboys will do enough on offense to hang around in this game. It's close, but the Bucs will win it.
