Welcome to my GIS Portfolio. All maps were created during one semester of learning GIS at Eckerd College.
This is a map I created for an assignment to see if Florida state parks correlate with population density. It appears that the east and west side of the southern tip of Florida has more state parks in areas with higher population density. The Tampa Bay area, the Miami-Dade area, and the Florida Keys have the most state parks and the highest population density.
This map I created for an assignment. This is my personal favorite map because not only does it represent The Hawaiian Islands, but it gives insight of protected lands, highly protected lands, plant density, and endangered species in those locations.
Below is a map of South America. I also created this map for an assignment. The left side of the map is looking at the number of protected areas in South America, whereas the right side of the map is the average size in kilometers of South America.
This map is looking at solar radiation use in the United States. This is the very first map that I created in my GIS class.
This was the last map I created for my GIS class. I enjoyed creating this map because I got to take part in the annual tree surveying around Eckerd College's campus. The data presented was collected by students in my GIS class. I decided to focus my map in on the number of dead cabbage palms on campus and where they are located. It is interesting to see that the majority of dead cabbage palms reside on the side of campus that is the least congregated and more out of the way. These particular areas of campus could benefit from other tree species being planted to increase tree biodiversity.
