This is our class' liquid syllabus. It has some useful information that will help you at the beginning of this semester. You may find the complete syllabus on Canvas. Let's start learning!
Our class is a 16-week course that starts on Monday, August 26th, 2024.. Canvas will be available one week on the 19th. Try logging in early to get familiar with the way it looks.
We start August 26th and end December 11th, 2024.
Our first day is on Monday, August 26, 2024.

Time: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Office Hours: Mon/Wed 5:45-6:15 PM
We have 16 Weeks of classes together. You do work in class and for homework.
On Canvas, there are 16 modules. They have instructions, assignments, announcements, grades, and class information. Your work is due in class.
We will learn:
life and work situations
new vocabulary
grammatical structures
reading skills & strategies
and writing multi-paragraph.
At home, you should practice those skills with your friends, family, acquaintances, or the people in your community.
Module One opens on August 19th (Monday).
Come to class on Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 PM-8:30 PM. Also check Canvas for online assignments.

Do your work for the first week of class.
Get your textbook and workbooks.
Your MJC email address and password. (Check your email for Mary's email.)
Reliable, high-speed Internet access on a desktop, laptop, or tablet.
Webcam and Microphone to join the Zoom office meetings.

You will need your student ID W number and photo ID to check out a book.

What do I believe in as a teacher?
My goal is to have students feel free to share their cultures, views, and capabilities in their learning environment and with their learning community. Everyone can learn from each other. I want students to learn, to grow, and to give their support to others. I am not only your instructor but also a learner. I learn from you, too.
I want you to enjoy my class and succeed. If you work hard, your English will improve.
Come to class regularly.
Practice, practice, practice in English.
Talk with your family, friends, and community in English.
Try something new.
Ask questions!
Read the module every week and study the vocabulary.
Do the assignments and complete them on time.
At the end, you will learn how to:
Show how to use English correctly in everyday situations for beginners.
Read and understand simple texts about daily life and work, demonstrating basic reading skills in English.
Write sentences with clear ideas and use correct basic punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and spacing for beginners.
