When The Lorax movie came out in 2012, I immediately imagined it used as a lesson in a supplementary school for Tu B'Shvat. While I've done two different iterations of this lessons for two different grades, and on two different platforms (one virtual and one in-person), the latter version shown here is the one I am most proud of.
This lesson was the first in a series of SEL related lessons to try to bring out a sense of community in my supplementary school class, after a massive uncovering of disrespect from this grade. Since they were in 5th grade, I understood that this lesson needed to acheive two goals. 1) It had to ideally begin to teach some empathy from the students, and 2) by way of it being for Tu B'Shvat, it was an opportunity for them to think critically about their actions and surroundings.
