If you want earphones for work that deliver studio-grade accuracy and a natural, open soundstage to keep your ears fresh during long shifts, choose Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva; if you need best headband headphones for work in noisy environments with active noise cancellation and all-day wireless freedom, choose CMF BY NOTHING Headphone Pro Active.
• Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva: Delivers an open-back, studio-monitor-like experience with a 50mm driver for unparalleled imaging and clarity, but sacrifices isolation due to its open design and requires a wired connection.
• CMF BY NOTHING Headphone Pro Active: Offers adaptive active noise cancellation, 50 hours of battery life with ANC on, and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, but lacks the open-air soundstage depth of the Altruva and uses smaller 40mm drivers.
• Who picks Altruva: Audiophiles, audio engineers, and remote workers who prioritize absolute sonic fidelity and comfort over long periods in quiet or semi-quiet home offices.
• Who picks CMF: Commuters, hybrid workers, and travelers who need to block out office chatter, subway noise, or coffee shop chaos while maintaining wireless convenience.
The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva is built for one specific purpose: accurate sound reproduction. It is not designed to hide the world around you; instead, it is engineered to let the music breathe. The key to this performance lies in its open-back earcup design. Unlike sealed cans that trap heat and pressure, the Altruva allows uninterrupted airflow into the headphones. This feature fundamentally changes how you perceive audio, enhancing the soundstage and imaging so much that you feel like you are sitting in the middle of a concert hall rather than wearing a device on your head. If you spend eight hours a day mixing tracks, mastering files, or simply listening to complex classical or jazz arrangements where instrument separation matters, this is the tool for you.
The hardware supports this mission with a newly developed OEM 50mm dynamic driver. It uses stronger neodymium magnets and a diaphragm made from custom PU and PEK composites with an ultra-pure copper ring. This construction ensures the bass hits hard and fast without muddying the midrange, which remains natural and balanced. The treble is described as clear and transparent with excellent air, allowing you to hear the subtle nuances of vocals and instruments in their fundamental ranges. The impedance is set at 32 ohms with a sensitivity of 98 db, making it relatively easy to drive but optimized for high-quality sources. The frequency range spans from 20Hz to 40kHz, covering the full spectrum of human hearing and beyond.

However, this design comes with significant trade-offs that define who should skip this product. Because it is an open-back headphone, it offers only passive noise cancellation. Sound leaks in from the room, and sound leaks out to the room. You cannot wear these in a busy open-plan office, on a bus, or in a loud household without distracting others or missing what is happening around you. Furthermore, they are strictly wired devices. They connect via a dual 3.5mm jack, meaning you must be tethered to your computer or audio interface. There is no Bluetooth, no battery, and no wireless flexibility. While the build quality is premium—featuring PVD coated steel, wood, and vegan leather—the lack of modern connectivity means these are not "go anywhere" headphones. They are stationary monitors. If your work involves travel, client meetings in cafes, or commuting, the Altruva will likely frustrate you despite its sonic excellence.
The CMF BY NOTHING Headphone Pro Active is a different beast entirely, designed for the chaotic reality of modern professional life. Its primary strength is adaptability. It features Hybrid Noise Cancellation capable of up to 40 dB of adaptive reduction, which actively silences the low-frequency rumbles of engines and the mid-frequency din of office conversations. This makes it an ideal choice for anyone who needs to focus in unpredictable environments. Whether you are trying to write code in a bustling co-working space, take a call on a train, or just enjoy music without the distraction of a crying child or a ringing phone, the ANC capability transforms the listening environment. You can also toggle Transparency Mode instantly if you need to hear your surroundings, offering a level of situational awareness that open-back headphones simply cannot provide.
Battery life is another massive advantage for the mobile worker. With Active Noise Cancellation enabled, the headphones promise up to 50 hours of continuous playtime. Even better, the total battery capacity supports up to 100 hours of playback with ANC off. A quick five-minute charge delivers four hours of listening, which is a game-changer for those days when you forget to plug them in overnight. The connectivity is equally robust, utilizing Bluetooth 5.4 for a stable connection within a 10-meter range. It supports LDAC and Dual Hi-Res certification, ensuring that high-resolution audio streams from compatible Android devices retain their detail. The 40mm nickel-plated drivers are tuned to deliver rich texture and energy, and the inclusion of Spatial Audio modes allows you to simulate a cinema or concert experience, adding depth to movies and games.
Despite these strengths, there are compromises inherent to its portable nature. The enclosure material is a mix of faux leather and plastic, which feels lighter and more utilitarian compared to the steel and wood of the Altruva. While the memory foam earpads and cap-friendly headband offer comfort for long sessions, the closed-back design creates a slightly more enclosed feeling than the airy openness of the Altruva. The audio latency is listed at 120 milliseconds, which is acceptable for music and video but might be noticeable for competitive gaming where frame-perfect synchronization is critical. Additionally, while the drivers are capable, they are physically smaller (40mm) than the Altruva's 50mm units, which may result in a slightly less expansive physical soundstage. If your priority is absolute, uncolored fidelity above all else, the processing required for ANC and the constraints of a smaller driver might fall short of the reference standard the Altruva sets.

For the vast majority of people working today, I would buy the CMF BY NOTHING Headphone Pro Active. The reality of modern work often involves shifting locations, noisy backgrounds, and a need for constant connectivity. The ability to silence a chaotic environment with 40 dB of ANC and the freedom of 50-hour battery life outweighs the theoretical acoustic superiority of a wired, open-back headset. The Altruva is a masterpiece of engineering for the dedicated home studio, but it is too restrictive for a lifestyle that demands flexibility. In my opinion, the CMF headphones strike the perfect balance between high-fidelity audio, practical features, and the durability needed for daily professional use.
Yes, the CMF BY NOTHING Headphone Pro Active is significantly better for noisy offices because its active noise cancellation blocks out ambient chatter, whereas the Altruva lets outside sound in.
No, the Altruva has an impedance of 32 ohms and a sensitivity of 98 db, so most computers and smartphones can drive them directly without a separate amplifier.
While they have Bluetooth 5.4, the audio latency is 120 milliseconds, which is fine for casual gaming but may be too slow for competitive titles requiring precise timing.
Value depends on your workflow; the Altruva offers better value for pure audio quality in a fixed location, while the CMF offers better value for versatility and all-day usability across different environments.
