Important note:

 The K-Lite Codec Pack does not expand the import abilities of professional video editors such as Adobe Premiere or Vegas Movie Studio. Those applications often only support importing a small set of file formats, and do not support using the type of codecs that are included in the codec pack (DirectShow/VFW). Modern editors often only use their own internal codecs or only support external codecs of the Media Foundation type.

The codec pack contains a plugin for decoding H.264 MVC 3D Video. To properly watch such videos you should use the included MPC-HC player (64-bit version) and select Madvr as the video renderer. Outputting 3D video to your monitor/TV requires Windows 8.x/10 (or Windows 7 with a modern NVIDIA GPU).

I'm trying to verify the k-lite codec I downloaded to my WINDOWS 10 laptop.The site lists the .exe file to download with a link and lists the md5 and sha256 hashes. I'm trying to verify the hashes with kleopatra(or anything really).

Error occured while playing or pausing or opening the file

[ error ] ofDirectShowPlayer: Cannot load video of this file type. Make sure you have codecs installed on your system. OF recommends the free K-lite Codec pack.

I ended up finding a temporary workaround by down sampling the videos in Premiere Pro instead of Movie maker, with 1280x720 .mp4 seeming to work best. I will check your solution asap, as it will save time in the long run. I did also find the menu options for k-lite quite extensive.

I used every player available for free on the Oculus Store. All of them just gave me generic error messages, except for DeoVR, which told me that I was missing V9 codecs and that I should install LAVFilters. I installed through [this] ( ), no changes. Reinstalled Microsoft's own VP9 extensions, nothing. Installed K-lite complete codec pack, nothing.

When you get this error it should mean that your MP3 Decoder is broken. First, Goto Start>>Run>>Type regsvr32.exe l3codeca.acm, Hit Enter. You are looking for this to say that it succeeded. Now, try and play your file again in WMP. If it works, great! If not, read on.

Goto C:WindowsSystem32l3codeca.acm and rename the file to l3codeca.bak. Then open WMP and go to Help>>Check for Updates. This will re-download the decoder and place a new copy on your system. It should be registered and ready to go at this point, but you can also run regsvr32.exe l3codeca.acm again just be sure. That command registers the ACM decoder with Windows, many Codec Packs will screw up your ACM Registration, running the command should set it right again.

If WMP fails to re-download it you can get the files off of your Windows XP CD-ROM. To do this first insert your Windows CD-ROM. Now goto C:WindowsSystem32 and find l3codeca.acm and l3codecx.ax. Rename both of this to .OLD. Now goto Start>>Run>>Type Expand G:I386l3codeca.ac_ C:WindowsSystem32l3codeca.acm, Hit Enter. Now do the same thing, but Type Expand G:I386L3CODECX.AX_ C:WindowsSystem32l3codecx.ax, Hit Enter.

Now, if you have installed WMP 10 you will also see l3codecp.acm, check the version on this file. It should read 3.3.0.44. If it reads version 1.2.0.63 then its not a good one, its pirated. More about the nasty stuff that likely install that at

Also, if the above has not helped goto C:WindowsSystem32 and look at l3codeca.acm. Right click and select Properties. If you see it has a version number of 1.2.0.63, you also have issues with pirated software.

Searching for the HEVC Video Extensions in the Microsoft Store results in MS' $0.99 version. Qanatoz' link brings up the free version in a browser. The following will open the store and go to that same free version:

Oddly, before I did that, I tried VLC (which supposedly contains an H265 codec). But, the Windows Video Troubleshooter still complained there was no HEVC codec and a sample video I tried came up with a black screen. With the free Microsoft version, that same video works fine.

Video not playing in Sibelius after a Codec update

 Posted by cherrybubbles - 24 May 07:53AM Hide picture Hi!

PC user here. I updated my K-Lite Codec thinking that it would be a good idea, and ever since I did, the video uploaded in Sibelius won't show up at all. If I hit the playback, it would still play the audio of the video.

I tried downgrading the version of the K-Lite Codec, but it's still not working. Thoughts?

Thank you in advance. Attachment No video.PNG.png (270K) Back to top | Allthreads Re: Video not playing in Sibelius after a Codec update

 Posted by cherrybubbles - 26 May 07:50PM Hide picture Hi! It's the same. I even re-installed the latest K-Lite Mega codec, and also re-installed Sibelius. I still get the same result. I didn't have this issue, too, until I updated the K-Lite Codec. Now, the previous versions (I only tried a few) won't work with Sibelius, too. It might not be the main cause of it, but the update definitely triggered the white video screen.

 Posted by Robin Walker - 01 Aug 07:48AM Hide picture I think this is a Windows problem, not a Sibelius one. Maybe this problem arrived with Windows 10 version 1803 in April 2018, and you had not tried to play videos in Sibelius since then?

Not everyone has this problem. But those that have it cannot get Sibelius to play videos, even after installing the correct 64-bit DirectShow codecs. Sibelius just shows a blank white video panel, which does not respond to any user input or to score playback.

If you are affected by this particular problem, here is a work-around which seems to enable Sibelius to play videos again:

1. Download and install IrfanView;

2. Open IrfanView, to a blank window;

3. Drag and drop the icon of any video file onto the IrfanView window **;

4. IrfanView will not play the video properly: maybe you hear the sound but not the picture: click "Pause";

5. Put IrfanView into the background;

6. Now Sibelius will be able to play videos, as well as it did before the problem occurred.

** if IrfanView puts up a message about missing codecs, then that is an entirely different problem, and you need to install the appropriate 64-bit DirectShow codecs before Sibelius will be able to play videos. The "K-Lite" codec pack works with Sibelius:

 _kl.htm

but, on that site, take care not to click on any advert saying things like "Start download": the links for the K-lite download are all in plain text.

hey dave,

cheers man,, this was so helpful but it seems i am not the only one,,i had some avi downloads and even vuze would not play the files, but thanks to ur perian,,truely the swiss knife for quicktime,,tried various codec and they did not work..well thanks a bunch because now i have hours of watching at my fingertips ?

i am on a website that allows me to watch movies but for some of the movies i cant watch the bottom link says to install k-lite codec pack.. and it connects me to the link.. but i have a mac and couldnt use it.. any suggestions??

Now, the problem is that after installing the k-lite and my application everything works perfectly (All videos plays perfectly). But after sometime some videos stops playing in both the components. At that time I checked whether it plays in actual (native) windows media player or not but it does not play in it also. Then if I uninstalls the K-lite and installs it again, video starts playing both in my application as well as native WM Player. This behavior happens again after some time.

The time after it happens can be anything between hours to days and every time it happens with different video formats. Also I checked it with different hardware and the behavior is same. What could be this problem? Is it a components (WMP activex and Media element) problem? Is it really that codecs crashing issue? or is this issue of codecs conflict with graphics driver? ff782bc1db
