This Privacy Policy explains how Wyzer Learning, Inc. (“Wyzer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles personal information in connection with the LingoSpace English-language learning platform (the “Service”). It is intended to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Alberta privacy law. By using the Service, you acknowledge this Policy.
This Policy applies to personal information Wyzer collects through the Service. Where you access the Service through an institution under a separate agreement, that institution may act as the controller of certain information, and its own privacy practices may also apply.
Wyzer collects only the information needed to create and operate your account and to provide the Service:
Account information — the information required to register and administer your account (for example, name and email address, or the identifier provided by your institution).
Content you submit — text and responses you enter while using the Service, including inputs to AI-powered features.
Audio recordings — audio captured when you use listen-and-repeat and similar pronunciation exercises.
Usage and technical data — limited operational data generated when you use the Service, such as log and device information necessary to deliver, secure, and maintain it.
Wyzer does not seek out sensitive personal information and asks that you not submit it through the Service.
Wyzer uses personal information to:
create, authenticate, and administer your account;
provide, maintain, secure, and improve the Service, including internal analytics and product development;
generate AI-supported learning responses (see Section 4);
respond to inquiries and provide support; and
comply with legal obligations.
Wyzer does not sell or otherwise monetize your personal information, and does not use your content to train or fine-tune its own machine-learning models.
Your permission comes first. Before any of your content is sent to an AI Provider, LingoSpace asks for your permission inside the app, showing you what will be sent, who will receive it, and why. You can withdraw that permission at any time in Settings → AI features. If you decline or later withdraw permission, the AI-supported features stay switched off and none of your content is transmitted to an AI Provider.
Certain features process your content using third-party large-language-model and speech providers (“AI Providers”), currently including OpenAI and Anthropic, and potentially others. When you use these features and have given permission, the following is transmitted:
Audio recordings captured during listen-and-repeat and similar pronunciation exercises, so your speech can be transcribed and your pronunciation and fluency scored;
The written and spoken answers and messages you submit to AI-supported learning features, so tutor responses and feedback can be generated;
The lesson text read aloud to you, so spoken audio can be generated (text-to-speech).
Under those providers’ applicable API and commercial terms, data transmitted through their APIs is not used to train their models by default. Wyzer relies on those terms but does not control the AI Providers, whose practices may change. The current list of AI Providers is available on request and will be maintained in Alberta.
Wyzer does not retain audio from pronunciation exercises after processing; any retention by the AI Provider is governed by that provider’s API terms.
Wyzer discloses personal information only as follows:
Service providers and sub-processors — vendors that host, support, or help operate the Service (including AI Providers and infrastructure vendors). These vendors are bound by written agreements to use the information only to provide their services to Wyzer, and to protect it with privacy and security safeguards that are the same as, or equivalent to, those described in this Policy.
Legal requirements — where required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Wyzer, users, or others.
Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
Wyzer does not sell personal information and does not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
The Service uses cookies and similar technologies only as necessary to operate the Service, maintain sessions, and ensure security.
Wyzer retains personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for the purposes described in this Policy, and thereafter as required to meet legal, accounting, or security obligations. Account information is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward.
Audio captured in pronunciation exercises is processed transiently and is not retained by Wyzer after the exercise. When pronunciation scoring is enabled, derived scores (not the underlying audio) may be stored against your account for the purposes described in this Policy.
Wyzer uses reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit. No system is completely secure, and Wyzer cannot guarantee absolute security.
Personal information, including audio processed by OpenAI, may be processed or stored outside your province or country, including by AI Providers and infrastructure vendors located in other jurisdictions such as the United States. Where information is transferred outside Canada, it may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.
You can permanently delete your account and its associated learning data at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the app. No request to Wyzer is required, and deletion is permanent rather than a temporary deactivation. You can also withdraw permission for AI processing at any time from Settings → AI features.
Subject to applicable law, you may also request access to or correction of your personal information, and withdraw consent to certain other uses. To exercise these rights, contact Wyzer using the information in Section 13. Wyzer will respond as required by PIPEDA and applicable Alberta law. Where your access is provided by an institution, some requests may need to be directed to that institution.
The Service is a general-audience product and is not directed to children. Wyzer does not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what is required to create an account, and does not target the Service to minors. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorization, contact Wyzer and it will take appropriate action.
Wyzer may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by reasonable means, such as posting an updated version with a revised effective date. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acknowledgment.
