ARTIST STATEMENT
I have fun being creative. If it were a struggle to be creative, I would not choose to be a suffering artist. I channel an energy that is out there for anybody to access. Free energy the universe provides. In these recent works, I use original stencils, fabrics, paint. No piece is planned in advance. All spontaneous creations. I try to price my work moderately; people should own original artwork. I make it approachable, fun; it's all wrapping paper to me.Â
I appropriate bits and pieces of things that come into my view. Conversely, I share my bits and pieces with abandon and honor that someone would want to use a piece of my original creation. Everything I do comes through me honestly. If it's African, indigenous to any land, people, geographical connection, culturally decorative. It is there for me to pick up the vibe from the universal shared creative energy and allow it to come into my work. No apologies. No excuses. We are all part of each other. I am not making a million dollars from anyone's culture. I am honoring my connection to a higher source. The spirits that be have chosen to share. Also, I am open to all discussions on this subject. Since I was a child, I have been using the same symbols that seem to come from around the globe and outside our earth. They flow through me.
My connection is so strong to these universal cultural symbols that it would be hard to separate me from them. I have also created symbols of my own with no known origins. It makes me think it's all out there looking for a place to land. Use whatever you come across with respect, high morality, honor the source and spiritual forces. As I have said, we are all one; some of us humans rip off and use and abuse these fragile morsels of tracings of spirits left for us. Those just interested in profit will come to an unsatisfying conclusion. Those people who do not honor the art of the world will be revealed and fail. Those of us with pure intentions will be understood for who we are and what we are channeling. My work might make you laugh or smile or just wonder. Ask me anything. How I do the work, anything. I am a mere mortal sharing.
Joy to you,
Linda Singer
