Q&A with Alex Pline
We're delighted to announce that Alex Pline will join us to answer sailor questions and facilitate a practice race session on Friday, August 9. On Saturday, he'll be watching us on the water and will share his observations during a post-racing chalk talk and social. This is a fantastic opportunity for participating teams!
Alex Pline has been sailing Snipes for 35 years and has competed in events at the local, regional, national and international level and is competitive, well rounded sailor generally seen in the top half of the fleet in most regattas. He is primarily a skipper but has also spend considerable time as a crew as he believes it is important to have first hand knowledge of a crew's duties and experience to make him a better skipper. He has purchased, refurbished and resold a number of used Snipes for fleet building purposes over the years.
Alex sails primarily with his wife Lisa, an accomplished Snipe skipper and crew who has also competed at all levels in the Snipe and are based in Annapolis MD. Additionally, he has been involved with the Snipe organizations as a fleet captain, board member of the USA Snipe Class and the International Snipe Class and was the originator of the first iterations of the snipe.org website. Prior to getting a Snipe Alex grew up sailing Cape Cod Bullseyes in Marion MA followed by Lasers in high school and spend 5 years sailing IOR boats in the Cleveland area.
Alex worked as an engineer and IT Project Manager at NASA for 35 years until retiring in 2021. His interests now include city planning and cycling and is currently a member of the Annapolis Planning Commission and the Annapolis Bicycle Racing Team. He blogs about Bikes, Boats, Urbansim and Advocacy at https://teampline.org.
