Meeting Minutes

Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

October 17, 2023

Board members present: Becky Cromer, Rod Hubbard, Brodey Weber, Jacob Leuenberger and Rose Klein.

Corrections to the minutes of the last meeting: The City Council voted six to one, not seven to one, to remove our recycling center. The center island in the street that needs upkeep is between W Cuming and NW Cuming. Brodey Weber made a motion to accept the corrected minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Rod Hubbard. Approved.

Becky Cromer filled in as President since we currently do not have anyone who wants to serve as President.

Jennifer Hellwege emailed the treasurer’s report. Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as emailed. Seconded by Brodey Weber. Approved.

Jennifer Hellwege sent a Pool Party summary: We had six member families who attended. One was already a member, three paid online and two gave her checks at the Pool Party. The non-members paid $1 at the pool desk. There were 110 swimmers. The Pool Party base cost was $180 plus $10 for the number of attendees over 100, so totaled $190.

Member prizes went to: L&W – 2 months free to Mary King, Hy-Vee $25 gift card to David and Wendy Steiner, Portable Speaker from West Gate Bank to Mary Jo Olds and Cooler Pack from Katy Manning to Adrienne Riedel.

Garage Sales summary: Thirteen new members since August 26th. Eleven had garage sales. Seven new members, three renewals, one member who paid again and one not local. This was the first time we required paid memberships for garage sale listings.

Brodey Weber discussed possible changes to the newsletter. He is looking at changing the size of the ads so they can be two across in the space. We discussed newsletter ideas: Results of the Pool Party, The difference between an HOA and the HNA, the new DMV and the construction calendar, and Rebel Bean Coffee. The newsletter should be done by the end of November for early December delivery.

We adjourned at 7:40. The next meeting is Tuesday, November 21 at 7 pm at Spirit of Hope Church at 5801 NW 1st St.
