Meeting Minutes

Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

May 15, 2023

Board members present: Beckie Cromer, Rod Hubbard, Jennifer Hellwege and Rose Klein. Jacob Leuenberger and Brodey Weber excused. David Staenberg absent.

Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Rose Klein. Approved.

Jennifer Hellwege gave the treasurer’s report. We have seven new memberships this month. All the Spring ads have been paid. Rod Hubbard made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills including the bill for the newspaper garage sale ad and pay the up-front cost for reserving the Highland’s Pool. Seconded by Jennifer Hellwege. Approved.

We asked for volunteers for the Goodwill Pickup on Saturday, May 20 from 2-5 pm. Rose Klein volunteered from 2-3 and Rod Hubbard volunteered from 3-4. We did not have anybody to cover the last hour. Jacob Leuenberger emailed that he added a link to the garage sale sign-up asking if they are members of the HNA and directing them to a payment site. (They do not have to join.)

Beckie Cromer said that she would probably book the Pool Party on Saturday, August 5. The board members who have worked the Pool Party before are available on that date. Beckie said that she would pay the extra fee to have the party last from 6-8 pm.

In the past swimmers who are members of the HNA swim free and all others pay $1 to swim. Someone asked Beckie to find out whether the pool staff would collect the $1 since we are not allowed to collect money on pool property. Beckie was also going to check if the Peed family would be willing to help fund the Pool Party.

Rod Hubbard made a motion that we move our meeting date to the third Tuesday of every month starting in June. Seconded by Jennifer Hellwege. Approved. (Brodey Weber was sworn in as a new City Council member today and the Council holds meetings on Monday nights.)

We have booked Eiseley Library for meetings September through December. We would like to find a meeting place in the Highlands so it would be more convenient for everyone. Beckie Cromer will try to book the Spirit of Hope Church (across from Amigos) for the June 20 and July 18 meetings.

There is new construction in the Highlands. The Lincoln Department of Motor Vehicles is going in where they took the trees out across West Highlands Blvd and west from Hacienda Real. The DMV on Sun Valley Blvd will close when this one opens.

The Election of Officers was tabled until the next meeting when more people can be in attendance. We still need more volunteers and members.

We adjourned at 7:55 pm. The next meeting is Tuesday, June 20 at 7 pm at Spirit of Hope Church at 5801 NW 1st St.
