Meeting Minutes

Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

July 18, 2023

Board members present: Beckie Cromer, Jennifer Hellwege, Brodey Weber, Jacob Leuenberger and Rose Klein. Member present Katy Manning. Rod Hubbard excused.

Jennifer Hellwege gave the treasurer’s report. We have $1,326.98 in checking and $3,534 in savings. We need to pay $88.87 for the Pool Party, $150 for newsletter delivery, also the bills from Eagle printing for the newsletter and the Lincoln Journal Star garage sale ad. Brodey Weber made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Jacob Leuenberger. Approved.

Main order of business is the Pool Party: Rose Klein will purchase and prepare the hot dogs and relishes. She will also get door prizes from Hy-Vee and L&W Garbage. Rod Hubbard will get a donation of bagged ice from U-Stop and a door prize from West Gate Bank.

In the past we got the chips donated by Adam Claypool of Frito Lay. Adam no longer works there so Jennifer Hellwege will call the main number (402-537-5010) to ask for a donation. Jennifer will also get a pop donation from Coke. Brodey Weber will get a donation of 21 packages of hot dog buns and bottled water from Super Saver. He said he will ask Huskerville bar for a gift card for a door prize. Katy Manning donated a Coleman pop cooler full of items for a door prize.

We were notified that we were the winner of the 11th Annual Goodwill Neighborhood Challenge. With a total of 4,290 pounds of donations we won the 1st place prize of $500.

With over 1,500 households in the neighborhood, we only have 31memberships this year. It was the decision of the board that we will post Fall Garage Sale listings for members only. It costs $20 to be a member for a year so if they join now, they are good for the Spring Garage Sales too. Jennifer will put a list of the memberships on Googe drive so Jacob Leuenberger will know who is a member. There will be a link to sign up for the HNA and to pay their membership dues from the garage sale sign-up page.

Beckie Cromer will not be at the Pool Party but her son Tanner will be there. We will meet at the pool at 5:15 pm to get set up. We must be out of the pool by 7:30 pm. Rose Klein will bring tubs for the pop, a roaster of hot dogs (168 hot dogs), relishes, serving trays, napkins, plastic gloves, a card table and tablecloths and an extension cord for the roaster. Jennifer is bringing a 4-foot table and a card table to check memberships outside of the pool.

Brodey Weber informed the membership that the prospective Northwest 12th street overpass over Highway 34 is scheduled for 2045.

We adjourned at 8:15 pm. The next meeting is Tuesday, September 19 at 7 pm at Spirit of Hope

Church at 5801 NW 1st St. We do not hold an August meeting.
