Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

April 17, 2023

Board members present: Rod Hubbard, Rose Klein, Jennifer Hellwege and Jacob Leuenberger. Members present: Katy Manning and Amy Adams. Beckie Cromer excused. David Staenberg and Brodey Weber absent. Rod Hubbard chaired the meeting in Beckie Cromer’s absence.

Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Jennifer Hellwege. Approved.

Jennifer Hellwege gave the treasurer’s report. Ten membership dues have been paid. Three spring ads have been paid: Katy Manning, Martyrs, and Bill Budler. The other ads are still outstanding. We still owe $150 to Boy Scouts and $100 to Emerald Care/Lancaster Manor. Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Jacob Leuenberger. Approved.

We consider the Egg Hunt a success. It was a beautiful day and approximately 350 people attended. Residents of Emerald Care/Lancaster Manor stuffed the plastic eggs with candy for us. They started right after Ash Wednesday and got done about a week before Easter. We got approximately 70 lbs. of small, individually wrapped candy from R.U. Nuts using the wholesale discount from Super Saver. We also purchased about 30 lbs. of soft retail candy to use for the younger kids. We had a total of 20 prize baskets and stuffed animals, five per age group.

The Egg Hunt has four groups: Toddlers and three-year olds, Preschool and Kindergarten, First and Second Grade, Third and Fourth Grade. The Egg Toss is for Fifth graders on up (or any child who can find a partner). We had 32 participants. Brodey Weber called the Egg Toss.

The people who helped set up the Egg Hunt were: David and Linda Staenburg, Beckie and Nick Cromer, Jim and Rose Klein, Brodey Weber, Jacob Leuenburger, Rod and Renee Hubbard, Connie Ditto and Katie Manning and her two sons.

Jennifer Hellwege made a motion to table the elections until the next meeting when more people can attend. Seconded by Rod Hubbard. Approved.

The spring garage sales are May 18, 19 and 20. Jacob Leuenberger will be doing the online garage sale posting. Jacob has updated the website and the Facebook page. The Goodwill Pickup will be on Saturday from 2-5. Rose Klein said she could probably help with the Goodwill Pickup but other volunteers are needed.

We discussed picking a date for the Pool Party allowing for everyone’s vacations. Rod Hubbard is gone July 15-24, Beckie Cromer is gone July 22-30, Jacob is gone July 8 and August 5, and Katy Manning is gone August 5. We will discuss the Pool Party at the next meeting.

We adjourned at 7:55 pm. The next meeting is Monday, December 19 at 7 pm at Eiseley Branch Library at 1530 Superior St.
