Meeting Minutes

Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

November 21, 2022

Board members present: Beckie Cromer, Rod Hubbard, Jennifer Hellwege and Rose Klein. David Staenberg and Brodey Weber excused.

Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Jennifer Hellwege. Approved.

Jennifer Hellwege read the treasurer’s report. We have $1,312.72 in checking and $4,014.63 in savings. The Boy Scouts have not cashed their check for delivering the summer newsletter. Rose Klein made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Rod Hubbard. Approved.

Beckie Cromer commented on all the trees that have recently been planted by the city along NW 12th Street. Jennifer Hellwege discussed ideas for flags on light poles like they have in the Near South Neighborhood. She has spoken to Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Manager Thomas Schaefer and the Urban Design Committee to see if such a thing would be possible in the Highlands.

The Winter Newsletter is due in the first part of December. Jennifer Hellwege has taken over the design of this newsletter because the Boy Scouts need to deliver it one of the first weekends in December. Please get any articles and ideas to Jennifer as soon as possible.

The Fire Station will no longer be available to hold our monthly meetings after the December meeting. Meeting rooms for the third Mondays in January and February are not available at the Eisley Library at 1530 Superior because of federal holidays those days. We will need to change our meeting dates to possibly the third Tuesday or other Mondays those months. The library has been scheduled for our meetings on the third Monday of all other months. The library closes at 8 pm so our 7 pm meetings will be over before 8 pm.

The Egg Hunt date will be Saturday, April 8 at 1 pm. (The day before Easter.) The Spring Garage Sales will be May 18, 19 & 20. The Fall Garage Sales will be September 14, 15 & 16.

Adam Claypool formally resigned from the board last week. Adrianna Bowder is no longer a member of the board. Jennifer said we need to recruit new board members who want to become active in the neighborhood. We especially need a new Social Media Coordinator.

Jennifer will ask for project ideas from the neighborhood in the Winter newsletter. A few of the ideas being considered are: dog waste collection sites, park/playground equipment, and neighborhood signage.

We adjourned at 7:50 pm. The next meeting is Monday, December 19 at 7 pm at the Fire Station.
