Meeting Minutes

Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

September 20, 2021

Board members present: Myrna Coleman, Rod Hubbard, Jennifer Hellwege, Beckie Cromer, Rose Klein and Jim Klein. Brodey Weber and Adam Claypool excused.

Beckie Cromer made a motion to accept the minutes as printed and emailed. Seconded by Jim Klein. Approved.

Jim Klein read the treasurer’s report. The Boy Scouts still haven’t cashed the spring check and we do not have an address to send them their summer check. Myrna Coleman turned in the invoice for the fall garage sales newspaper ad. Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Jennifer Hellwege. Approved.

Myrna asked the board to go over the results of the Pool Party. Rod Hubbard said that the cannonball contests went well but we need to split the younger age groups. He suggested we change to nine and under, 10-14, 15-18 and 19 and older. No one seemed to miss the water balloon toss. Myrna said that next year we will explain that the prize winners get to choose from the prize bags.

The winners from the Pool Party members’ prize drawing were: Shannon Shafer – two free months garbage service from L&W Garbage, James Johnson - $25 Hy-Vee gift card, Adrian Rydell - $25 Hacienda Real gift card, Mary King – bag chair from West Gate Bank and Brian DeGarmo – bag chair from West Gate Bank.

Rose Klein and Rod Hubbard helped with the Goodwill Pick-up on Friday, September 17 but had only six donators and gave out one receipt. On Saturday, Sept. 18 Myrna and Rod had 22 donators and gave out eight receipts. Myrna said that the Goodwill driver Larry told them that anyone donating furniture had to take it to the 27th street Goodwill. She will check with Goodwill before the spring garage sales because not being to take in furniture would make a difference in the total pounds we take in.

Jim Klein said that we will need to put more ads in the newsletter to help offset the cost of the newsletter. The summer newsletter only had four ads and we had no ads in the spring newsletter. In previous years we had about a dozen ads which paid for the printing and delivery of the newsletter. Brodey Weber has asked if someone else would be responsible for getting the ads.

We adjourned at 7:40 pm. The next meeting is Monday, October 18 at 7 pm at the Fire Station.
