Meeting Minutes

Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

November 15, 2021

Board members present: Myrna Coleman, Rose Klein, Rod Hubbard, Beckie Cromer, Brodey Weber and Adam Claypool. Jennifer Hellwege and Jim Klein excused.

Beckie Cromer made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Rod Hubbard. Approved.

Rose Klein presented a printed treasurer’s report in the treasurer’s absence. Rod Hubbard said that David Staenberg paid him for his ad so Rod deposited the check and emailed the receipt to Jim Klein. Beckie Cromer made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Rod Hubbard. Approved.

Myrna Coleman brought up the old business of the winter newsletter. One of the advertisers asked if we could design their ad. Brodey Weber said that Katie at Eagle Printing said that they could design ads. The advertiser could bring it to them (at the advertiser’s expense). Brodey said that he has articles for the newsletter: The new Food Bank distribution center on NW 12th St., A new state Department of Education member, Husker football player Luke Reimers (who went to North Star H.S., an update on the Recycling Center and information about Snow Angels volunteer opportunity.

Brodey Weber said that the newsletter needs to be at the printer by the 24th of November. Monday, Nov. 22 is the cut-off for ads. The printer needs four days to process the newsletter. The Boy Scouts contact person, Joy Meece, said that they need to have one to two weeks to deliver the newsletter.

Myrna Coleman talked to a firefighter who was concerned about the mess people leave at the Recycling Center when they leave their trash instead of recycling. Brodey said that there is no official date for closing, but the Recycling Center is still listed as closing. The closest recycling site is 5101 N. 48th Street at the Transfer Station. Brodey said that if he puts an article about the closing in the newsletter maybe we can get the Highland’s residents involved in trying to keep it.

Rose Klein made a motion that we send a letter to the Mayor and City Council members and that we encourage Highland’s residents to contact the City Council to express their support of the Recycling Center and ask them not to remove it. Seconded by Rod Hubbard. Approved.

We adjourned at 7:55 pm. The next meeting is Monday, December 20 at 7 pm at the Fire Station.
