Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

July 19, 2021

Board members present: Myrna Coleman, Rod Hubbard, Brodey Weber, Beckie Cromer, Rose Klein and Jim Klein. Guests: Megan Leuenberger and Alana Sesow. Jennifer Hellwege and Adam Claypool excused.

Myrna Coleman announced that we won the Goodwill Neighborhood Challenge! We won $500 1st place with 4,569 lbs. of donations. The total for all neighborhoods was 32,656. Alana Sesow, who represented Goodwill, presented the check to Myrna.

Beckie Cromer made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Brodey Weber. Approved.

Megan Leuenberger, who is a new resident of the Highlands, suggested an idea for using some of our Goodwill prize money. She suggested that we build a Little Free Library. She said that she has one installed in her yard. Beckie Cromer said that she has a neighbor with one in her yard.

The 16th Annual Pool Party will be Saturday, July 24 from 6-8 at the Highland’s Pool. Myrna said that Super Saver is donating 21 packages of buns and seven cases of bottled water. Myrna said that she will check back with U-Stop about bags of ice for the pop and water. Lays donated 200 bags of chips. Rod said that West Gate Bank would donate two camping chairs and he would pick up the ice. Rose Klein got a certificate for two free months of garbage service from L&W Garbage and a $25 gift card from Hy-Vee. We have gift certificates from Hacienda Real and Down the Hatch. Brodey Weber said that Schilling Bridge did not get back to him.

Brodey Weber said that the city Urban Planning Department will let us know whether we could get Highland’s signs on light poles. Brodey said that he will picking up the newsletters tomorrow afternoon and the Boy Scouts will deliver them tomorrow night, Tuesday, July, 20, 2021. Eagle Printing charged $100 for design work and $334 for printing for a total of $466 with tax.

Brodey said that getting ads takes a lot of time. Pizza Hut wanted an ad, but did not get back to him. Brodey asked if someone else would be interested in contacting advertisers for the winter issue. Brodey said that his course load is heavy since he is in law school.

We adjourned at 8:05 pm. The next meeting is Monday, September 20 at 7 pm at the Fire Station.
