Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

February 17, 2020

Board members present: Myrna Coleman, Rose Klein, Jim Klein, Rod Hubbard and Kris Meek. Jennifer Hellwege and Brodey Weber excused.

Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Kris Meek. Approved.

Jim Klein read the treasurer’s report. He said the Boy Scouts need to cash their check. Jim added to the report that the bill from the printer was $288.73. Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Rose Klein. Approved.

Myrna Coleman reported that Keep Lincoln and Lancaster County Beautiful (KLLCB) would reimburse us costs to do a neighborhood cleanup. We would need to register by March 6 for The Big Event on April 4 from 1-4 pm sponsored by UNL.

Myrna is still waiting on getting a date for the Pool Party. The person at Parks and Rec who needs to approve the date isn’t available until tomorrow.

The Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 11. Myrna will hold a prize basket stuffing party at her house at 7 pm on Tuesday, April 7. The plastic eggs are stored at Jim Klein’s acreage. We need to contact Lancaster Manor to see when they want to start stuffing the eggs.

Myrna said that if we are going to do a survey on what to spend the Goodwill prize money on we should also ask if residents are interested in any volunteer opportunities. We need all the director’s input to figure out what suggested projects we want to list on the survey. It looks like we will not be able to put it in the spring newsletter.

Brodey Weber told Myrna he could fund raise if we come up with a bigger project. Kris Meek had ideas for smaller individual playground equipment. We could ask if Highland’s residents would be willing to get involved in putting in improvements to the playground. Myrna will check with Parks and Rec to see what other ideas they have for playground equipment. Rose Klein said that she would take pictures of existing playground equipment.

We adjourned at 8:40 pm. The next meeting is Monday March 16 at 7:30 at the Fire Station.
