Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

March 18, 2019

Board members present: Myrna Coleman, Rod Hubbard, Jim Klein, Rose Klein and Kris Meek. Jennifer Hellwege excused. Members and guests: Brodey Weber and Shane Jensen.

Shane Jensen has just opened Branched Oak Insurance and Financial Services in the Highlands’ business district near Ascent Chiropractic. He is an independent agent and financial planner who brokers through Ameritus, but he has worked for State Farm and Merrill Lynch in the past. He lives near Raymond.

Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Jim Klein. Approved.

Jim Klein read the treasurer’s report. Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Rose Klein. Approved.

Myrna Coleman said that she went to the last Neighborhood Forum, but it wasn’t what she expected it to be. There were breakout sessions on different topics, but she was not able to ask her questions. Myrna said that she is going to contact Parks and Rec regarding mini grants and what the deadline is for them.

Myrna will make some contacts to get information for the spring newsletter. She will check with Andy Bajc of the Boy Scouts to see how many Christmas trees they picked up after Christmas. Kris will contact Mitch Sump of Aging Partners (phone number 402-441-7070) regarding their programs that could help our residents. Kris needs articles this week so that she can finish the newsletter. A couple of suggestions were an article on the new businesses in the strip by Down the Hatch bar and an article thanking Transportation and Safety for the new turn area from NW 1st on to Hwy 34.

We are working on getting everything ready for the Egg Hunt on April 20th. Myrna and Rose Klein have made several trips to Lancaster Manor bringing them the plastic eggs and candy and picking up the filled eggs. There will be an Egg Hunt basket filling party at Myrna’s house on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30.

Rose Klein made a motion to nominate Brody Weber as a director in the Highlands Neighborhood Association. Seconded by Rod Hubbard. Approved. Congratulations Brody! Brody’s contact information is brodeyw12@gmail.com and 402-429-2036.

We adjourned at 8:50 pm. The next meeting is Monday, April 15 at 7:30 at the Fire Station.
