Vice President Rod Hubbard called the meeting to order and asked our guests to introduce themselves:

Bennie Shobe is one of three City Councilmen At Large who were elected to represent all of the city. He said he tries to get around to all the neighborhood associations to see what their concerns are. He told us that Tammy Ward, James Herrold and Rochelle Ray are the candidates who are running for City Council in our district, District 4 representing Northwest Lincoln.

Brian Bayer is the owner and founder of Ascend Chiropractic which opened in December and is located at 5611 NW 1st St. Suite 105 which is close to Salon Bravo, Sunny Nails and Down the Hatch Bar and Grill. He said that his is a research-based clinic that does lots of rehabilitation work as well as traditional chiropractic care.

Brodey Weber lives in the Highland’s neighborhood and is interested in joining the board of the HNA. He is on the board of directors for Community Action and is Assistant Chair of the Lancaster Democratic Party.

Jeff Kirkpatrick is running for the office of Mayor of Lincoln. He is the current City Attorney and considers himself the most qualified candidate for Mayor. He runs the Law Department which includes 17 attorneys and 34 employees. He said he goes over any projects that go before the City Council. Kirkpatrick was involved in bringing broadband to the city to cheaply provide broadband to businesses. He convinced companies to bring broadband to all the libraries and negotiated with ALLO to bring broadband fiber internet to all homes and businesses.

Kris Meek made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as printed and emailed. Seconded by Jim Klein. Approved.

Jim Klein read the treasurer’s report. He just paid the $23 bi-annual payment for our non-profit corporation status with the state. Rod Hubbard made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Kris Meek. Approved.

In preparation for the Egg Hunt Jim Klein will need to bring all the tubs of empty plastic eggs from storage. Lancaster Manor has again agreed to fill the eggs with candy for us. We have not yet gotten a date for the Pool Party.

We agreed to table any decisions on what we want to do with our money from previous Goodwill Challenge winnings. Parks and Rec. has made recommendations on projects that we could fund in the Highlands Park areas.

We adjourned at 8:30 pm. The next meeting is Monday, March 18 at 7:30 at the Fire Station.
