Meeting Minutes

Highlands Neighborhood Association Minutes

July 16, 2018

Board members present: Myrna Coleman, Kris Meek, Jim Klein and Rose Klein. Guest: Chrystal Pascoe. Rod Hubbard excused.

Kris Meek made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as emailed and printed. Seconded by Jim Klein. Approved.

Jim Klein read the treasurer’s report. Rose Klein made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and pay all pending bills. Seconded by Jim Klein. Approved.

Myrna Coleman contacted Jon Carlson, aide to Mayor Beutler, about the fences on the curve on the south side of West Fletcher that keep getting knocked down by out-of-control cars. He contacted Randy Hoskins with City Public Works. Mr. Hoskins said the delineator posts (curve signs) were replaced in early June. One or more of the posts are hit and replaced five or six times per year. He said they can’t do a guardrail because it could cause more serious crashes. He suggested that they modify the street cross section and make the surface rougher to get more traction. He also suggested that police could patrol that area more, especially at shift changes.

Myrna reported on plans for the Pool Party. The Fire Department denied our request for a fire truck at the Pool Party. Myrna contacted Husker swim coach Patrick Rowan to see if some of his swimmers could be our judges for the Pool Party. Jill the Pool Manager said if people want to they could bring in their own lawn chairs because they have limited poolside seating.

U-Stop will again donate bags of ice for the Pool Party which will be used to cool down the pop donated by Coke. Kris Meek will check with Down the Hatch for a door prize, make signs, fill water balloons and pick up the pop. Rod Hubbard will get the door prize from West Gate Bank, and pick up the ice. LNK Food Plaza is donating two huge boxes of individual potato chips. Myrna will get the door prize from QP Ace Hardware. Rose Klein will get a door prize from Hy-Vee and L&W Garbage and will purchase and cook the hot dogs and buns.

We need to find more volunteers to help with the Pool Party on July 28th. Jennifer Hellwege and Randy Meek will not be available to help. Rod Hubbard said that he would bring his wife and daughter to help. Myrna, Rose, Jim, Kris and Rod will be there. Myrna will try to recruit judges for the cannonball contest.

The fall Highlands Garage Sales are scheduled for September 20-22. Send your garage sale listings to lincolnhighlands.com so webmaster Jennifer Hellwege can get them on the website.

We adjourned at 8:30 pm. The next meeting is Monday, September 17 at 7:30 pm at the Fire Station. We do not have an August meeting.
