Creating a plan to establish an advisory committee for the STS (Skilled and Technical Sciences) education program allowed me to understand the essential role that strong partnerships play in building a successful and sustainable CTE program. This initiative focused on bringing together a diverse group of community leaders, workforce representatives, and advocates who are invested in student success both in and beyond the classroom. Through this planning process, I gained insight into how collaboration can directly enhance the educational experience. By involving professionals from industry, education, and local organizations, the advisory committee can provide meaningful input on curriculum updates, job market trends, and relevant technical skills. These real-time insights ensure that instruction remains current and aligned with workforce demands. The plan also emphasizes creating direct benefits for students. Proposed advisory board activities—such as hosting job fairs, offering internship placements, and organizing classroom visits from industry professionals—support students in making informed career decisions and gaining hands-on experience. These connections can help bridge the gap between school and the workforce, offering students real pathways to employment and further education. Overall, this artifact highlights how thoughtful, purposeful collaboration with community stakeholders can transform a CTE program into a dynamic, student-centered learning environment. It reinforced my belief that when students have access to strong professional networks and real-world learning opportunities, they are more prepared to succeed after high school.

One of the most meaningful artifacts that highlights my ability to build and maintain strong partnerships in a CTE program is my involvement in organizing the Skilled and Technical Science (STS) Family Night at Dawes Middle School. This event brought together local high schools, colleges, and industry partners to showcase the diverse career and educational pathways available to students. My role included coordinating with school staff, community organizations, and industry professionals to ensure a successful and informative evening for students and their families. This project demonstrated the value of diverse partnerships by bringing in representatives from multiple sectors—secondary education, postsecondary institutions, and the skilled trades industry. These stakeholders each offered unique insights and resources, which helped families see the full range of possibilities available to their children. From dual-credit programs to hands-on industry demonstrations, each partner contributed something valuable. The event also emphasized meaningful collaboration. Planning required ongoing communication and coordination between educators, administrators, and external partners. Because of this teamwork, families were able to engage directly with industry representatives, ask questions, and even explore hands-on activities that reflected real-world work scenarios. STS Family Night helped families see the direct connection between school and future careers, which increases student motivation and involvement in CTE. It also laid the groundwork for long-term relationships with community and industry partners, which will help sustain the program and expand student opportunities in the future.
