Update: The release of the Nike Paris Saint-Germain 2020-2021 home and away kits gives us a look at the typeface PSG will use in the 2020-21 season. Paris SG opted for the font that provides a 3D effect.

From the start of the 20-21 season, teams in France's top three divisions (Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and Championnat National) will have the choice of three different, league-designed fonts. Now we get the first look at one of the three new Ligue 1 2020-21 typefaces.

The player name lettering will be the same across all styles of the Ligue 1 20-21 font. The league has confirmed that the use of a border on names will be optional - unlike before. Should a team decide to use such a border, it will have to be of a different color than the letter base shape as well as color different from the shirt.

In France, from the 2014/2015 season all the teams of the first two divisions (Ligue 1 and Ligue 2) have used a single font for the championship, with the possibility of being able to customize it minimally through the choice of the main color, the color of the profile of the numbers and the pattern to be used within them (as happened at Paris Saint-Germain in the 2018/2019 season).

Although the tendency at European level is to introduce standardized fonts for all the teams in the championship - see La Liga and Serie A, which will adopt this choice starting next year -, the Transalpine Federation seems to offer three different ones font types to all the teams of the first three national divisions, who will therefore have the opportunity to choose the style to be applied to their shirts. The only ''stake'' put by the French Football Association is that all teams must make a definitive choice on the font to be used during the next season before the presentation of the 2020/2021 shirts.

Having progressed through the academy of AS Lattoise, Lafont signed for Toulouse in 2014 where he became the youngest goalkeeper ever to play in Ligue 1 upon making his debut the following year. He went on to make over 100 appearances for the club across all competitions before joining Fiorentina in 2018. In 2019, he returned to France in a loan deal to Nantes; the deal was made permanent in 2021.

Lafont was born in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, to a French father and Burkinabe Dyula mother.[4] His parents separated when he was nine years old and Lafont moved to France to live with his father in Herault. His mother remained in Burkina Faso, where she later became a Member of Parliament for the People's Movement for Progress in the Burkina Faso National Assembly.[5][6] Lafont comes from a sporting family. His maternal grandfather played football for ten years and later served as president of Ouagadougou Shooting Star while his mother was a member of the national handball team.[5][6] His father also played tennis.[7]

Lafont started his career at amateur side AS Lattoise where he initially began playing as an attacking midfielder, before converting to a goalkeeper.[8] He spent six years with Lattoise before signing with Ligue 1 side Toulouse in 2014.[9]

Lafont has represented France at various youth levels. He made six appearances for the France U16 team and captained the side on three occasions.[12] He then made his debut for France U17 on 20 October 2015 against Northern Ireland, keeping a clean sheet in the process. Lafont was, however, not selected for France's 2016 European Under-17 Championship squad after Toulouse lobbied for him to remain with the club for their last two games of the season to aid their relegation battle.[32]

In September 2016, Lafont was named in the 20-man France U18 squad by manager Bernard Diomde for the 2016 Limoges Tournament.[33] He was an ever-present as France ended the tournament on top of the standings having won 2 out of their 3 matches and drawn the other.[34] He was promoted to the U20 side the following year and made his debut against England on 25 March.[35] In May the same year, he was named in the France squad for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.[36] Throughout the tournament, he alternated with Paul Bernardoni as France's starting 'keeper before the nation was eliminated by Italy in the Round of 16.[37]
