Calumet SD132 Parent Blog is....

A platform where parents/guardians are welcome to share and learn from each other's experiences and more! Blogging is a great way for parents to express themselves in a safe online environment. Not only does it work to build creativity and self-expression, but it can also be downright fun to have your voice heard. Blogging is like a journal, A place to express your ideas.

In creating this platform, we have ALL parents in mind when it comes to communication, listening, and support to each other. At this time, what we have in common is our children attend the same school district, but perhaps we also have faced the same challenges at one time or another. This is a great way to have open lines of communication with our students' most important teachers: their parents.

The author for this blog is a person that has many experiences working in schools, has dealt with many complex cases, demonstrates compassion with all young people, has experiences of loss, and truly understands the frustration of parenting during this time and era. It is not easy juggling parenting and personal mental wellness for our loved ones. Trust me, I know.

The topics on this blog will include, but not limited to, General Education, Youth Development, Social-Emotional Learning, Academics, Family and Community Resources, Educational Videos, and much more! We will have monthly messages from our building Principal, and on that note, we stand with our teachers because of their ongoing commitment and dedication to our students, your child(ren).

"Lighting The Way" Parent Blog was an idea derived from our SD132 Leadership Team. During the pandemic, we were all in a dark place; we worried about our parents' and students' mental well being not to mention, we worried about ourselves and our families too! We missed our students tremendously! Coming out of this cold dark era, we would like to be a part of lighting the way for those we serve, and yes, that would be you and your child(ren).

A question(s) will be posted Bi-weekly. Parents can share views and can comment on that blog, adding more to the conversation if you wish. Parents can just stay updated on topics and not respond; the choice is yours. All we ask is that we respect all views and comments posted.

Let's create a fun and invigorating space. In other words, let's ALL keep Lighting the way with Positive Vibes for ourselves, our children, and the communities we live in.
